Back in February 2020 I had the chance to visit Rodney, Mississippi again to check the progress of the restoration of the old Rodney Presbyterian Church. On my way out of town I noticed what looked to be a house or maybe a store. After some research I found this building is an abandoned store in Rodney, Mississippi.

Abandoned Store in Rodney, Mississippi

I normally drive Rodney Road several times a year when I’m heading up to Rodney or leaving Rodney and I’m always on the look out for buildings and houses hidden in the woods. On my last to Rodney I was passing the old Alston Grocery Store and down the road and across the street tucked back in the dormant brush I saw what looks to be an old house or building. Once again another hidden gem, I’ve missed. When I shared this picture, several people living in the area or visits regularly thought the old store had already been torn down!

I posted my findings in the Rodney Historic Facebook Group. They told me the house was actually Mrs. Ada Jackson’s store and one of the members used buy cokes there as a child.

Sadly the store was closed by the early 1980s.

Here’s What I Learned From Those That Lived In Area
  • Store owner was an aunt or some sort of relation to the McAllens
  • After the store closed a father and son rented the house and lived there for a few years or months depending on who you ask. They were from up north and had no known relation to the town. They showed up there and raised honey and hives all over Rodney.
  • At some point it became the home of Albert “Tom” Wilson
