On my way out of town and heading home from spending time with the family I decided to check out an abandoned bridge deep inside the Homochitto National Forest. On my way to that bridge I spotted an abandoned farm house in Franklin County, Mississippi just off the road behind a stand of trees.

Abandoned Farm House in Franklin County, Mississippi

The Abandoned Farm House in Franklin County, Mississippi I came across sits almost hidden by a stand of trees a long the property line and is surrounded by trees as well. But hind the trees most of the trees have been cleared out due to logging.

I couldn’t get any closer than the fence line but the old house looks to be built in the 30s or 40s and has multiple additions that were added over the years. From what I can tell the house might be saved and had someone living there in the last 10 years or so. There’s even a satellite dish still mounted on the roof. The DirecTV dish doesn’t look that I old. Its of an older generation of satellite dish, but is still common on older homes.

From my experience these old places are used for hunting camps and deer leases. When that happens, the houses and out buildings on the properties aren’t taken care of. Sometimes even trashed. My local historical contact told me there was a historic plantation home on the property and the land was sold for hunting purposes near where she lives. The new owners kept it a few years then clear cut the property and demolished the plantation home because it was in they way of the clear cutting.

Unlike that property, this particular property has left the house alone and only time will tell if the house is saved.

About the Image

The image  was shot on an early morning on a sunny day. I used my Sony a6000 using my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS lens. The images were then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs A.I. Clear  and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the images, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
