This week’s random image is of an old dirt road in Fannin County, Texas. I came across this road while on the way to photograph some old grain silos that were abandoned years ago.

Old Dirt Road in Fannin County, Texas

I have a love hate relationship with the back roads in Fannin County, Texas. I live just a few minutes from the boarder of Fannin County. So when I want to get out and just drive some old back roads it usually ends up in Fannin County. These old dirt roads are where the good stuff can be found. Some of these roads I have found old farm houses, abandoned cars, and old equipment that hasn’t been seen in years by anyone but those that live near by.

Don’t get me wrong Fannin County uses a lot of paved roads but they tend to be busy roads or in and near populated areas. The not so populated roads are gravel and the least populated areas are more of a dirt and grass path than a road. When I’m out exploring there are times I get confused and the road looks like is a private farm road or a county road that reverted back to the land owner. Updated maps are key when exploring these areas.

The above image is of an actual road that drove on a few years ago and the last I checked (maps still show it as a dirt road) it was still a dirt road. When I first found the road I was driving 2008 scion xB and the road was mud so I turned around. A few weeks later I took the old Subaru Forester since it runs on all-terrain tires. Luckily, the dirt road was bone dry.

I scored a big one during that trip. About mile from the location hidden in a dry creek bed on the other side of fenced in hay field I found an abandoned Model A (looks to be) that looks like an old farmer drove it out there and got it stuck and just left it.

About the Image

This old dirt road in Fannin County, Texas was shot on sunny and windy day using my Sony a6000 Camera and with a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 lens.  I then edited the image with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs Denois AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
