This week’s random image of the week is another shot from my March 2019 Mississippi Road Trip. This time its the flooded image of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Rodney, Mississippi (also know as the Rodney Baptist Church)
Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Rodney, Mississippi Under Water
There isn’t much information on the church. According to the Nation Register of Historic Places the church was built in 1850 but no one seems to know when the church was abandoned.
In reality the church hasn’t been abandoned, its just not being used. Over the years has been repaired and parts were renovated so that the interior could be used in a movie. But mother nature hasn’t been kind. Whenever the Mississippi rises and floods the area, the church is flooded. Because of the multiple flooding and regular repairs not being done, the church is in bad shape.
The March 2019 Floods were rough on the old church. According to a few locals this was one of the worse flooding they’ve seen in years. Sadly the church won’t be able to handle much more flooding.
About the Images
This image is part of the Rodney Under Water Series. Check out that article to see more images of the flooded town of Rodney, Mississippi.
These pictures were taken with my Sony a6000 with a Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 Lens while I waited out a few feet into the water wearing my rubber muck boots and walked up and down the roads as far as could and take pictures using the telephoto lens. The images were processed with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs A.I. Clear and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
