Our Visit

The next stop of our February 2023 Biloxi road trip was to check out Lighthouse, the Lighthouse Pier, and take a walk on the beach. When we pulled into the parking lot for the Lighthouse our first stop was to check out the old pier.

The remains of an old pier destoryed by Hurricane Zeta

The pier is gone. All that’s left are the pylons and the covered structure at the end of the pier. It’s strange that the covered structure is mostly intact, but the decking for the rest of the pier is gone. The remains of the pier are a resting spot for sea birds and is covered in bird guano and smelt bad near the structure.

The Lighthouse Pier in Biloxi, Mississippi – History

The Lighthouse Pier was built in the 1980s (looking for confirmation) and has survived multiple hurricanes with little damage to major damage. But always repairable. Then in 2020 Hurricane Zeta hit the gulf post and destroyed the pier. All that is left is the skeleton of its former self.

Lighthouse Pier Ruins

In 2022 the city announced that they were planning to rebuild the pier and make upgrades to the pier that will hopefully make it more secure during the hurricane. As of February 2023, the bridge still looks the same as the pictures found of the damages after the storm.

About Images

I used my Sony a6000 and my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS lens. The images were then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC, Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AIAurora HDR (no longer available but still a great product),, and Luminiar Neo to clean up the images.
