The EnergeticSky Trekking Poles are the first hiking poles that I have owned and used. I’ve used mono poles during my hikes and found them useful. After moving into more elevation changing hikes I decided it was time to try out  a pair of true hiking poles. When these became available I decided to give them a try.

EnergeticSky Trekking Poles – The Review

EnergeticSky Trekking Poles

I’ve got about 30 miles on them. I’ve used them in rocky terrain, uphill/downhill dirt paths, and slightly muddy tracks and they keep me stable. I’ve mostly used the rubber tips and they do well on those surfaces.

EnergeticSky Trekking Poles

The EnergeticSky Trekking Poles are made well and look good. They are comfortable in my hands but if I put too much weight directly on the pole or push down on it the locking mechanism that hold the height adjustment in place, it slips a little. Even with the finger screw at full tightness it will start slipping. I found that using a wrench or a multitool with the plyers will help keep them in place.

I believe this to be a weight issue. I weigh about 220 and my wife weighs about 110. When she uses the poles they stay in place, but as soon as I get them they may slip the first time I put weight on them or  about every other mile I might to adjust them.

What I really like about these poles is they break down small enough they fit in my pack  along with the additional baskets. The soft case is all nice and straps attach to a backpack for easy access.

The handles are soft cork and fit my hands and my wife’s smaller hands perfectly and the wrist straps are soft enough they don’t rub the wrist raw. The rubber foot covers are perfect for walking around in packed dirt, rocky trails, or on slippery granite trails. When carrying a heavy pack they help spread the load as well.

Hiking poles review

As of 11/07/2021 they have been retired. I went hiking at Beavers Bend Oklahoma and when I arrived at the trail I tried to install the poles, they wouldn’t go back together. Whatever holds the wires tight when fully assembled wasn’t working. I spent about 5 minutes trying to fix them and another 20 minutes at the house the next morning trying to fix them. Fortunately I had a set of Ozark Trail Trekking Poles for backups and I was able to use them.

11/11/2021 – I did a little more research about repairing trekking poles and I saw several mentions on various sites recommending users to give folding trekking poles another look when they won’t lock in place. Sometimes things stick. In my case the locking pin didn’t completely expand and the pole wouldn’t expand out far enough to lock in place. So I fiddled with the pin and it started working. I’m still planning to replace these. They slip to much, but they work perfectly for my wife, so she will be using them after I find a good replacement.

Hiking by the lake

As I mentioned earlier, I have about 30 miles on them with a rest of almost 8 months folded up in my hiking gear bag. There shouldn’t be an issue and I’m trying to figure out if I can fix it or if they are only good for parts.

Final Thoughts and Recommendations

This type of issue is always a possibility with this style of trekking poles. Normally, they fail when the user is rough on them during assembly or disassembly. For the price these aren’t a bad option, but there are similar brands out there in at this price point that I want to try out.

Please Note: The EnergeticSky Trekking Poles were given to me to test and give a non-bias review.
