Review: Anker SoundCore Nano Bluetooth Speaker

Anker SoundCore Nano Bluetooth Speaker

As I mentioned before, its so small it will fit in the palm of your hand.  That means it will fit in a pocket, laptop bag, hand bang or in the glove box of your car.

When you hear most small single speaker priced for budget users you usually get a low quality speaker that can’t hit the highs right, the mid tones or ok, and the base isn’t there. Along with the lower sound quality you also get a speaker that isn’t that loud. But with the Anker SoundCore Nano Bluetooth Speaker that’s not the case. You get above average and that is loud enough you can hear it in the next room. For a 3 watt single speaker that’s impressive. Don’t get me wrong, you aren’t going to get premium sound like what you might find from a Bose or Harman Kardon speaker system. It might be as good or almost as good as one of their portable speakers ( I wouldn’t know, I’ve haven’t test yet (someone send me for a review:)). If you want better sound you might try one of Anker’s two speaker systems.

For me the sound is impressive and I use it whenever I want more sound than my phone can provide. I use it when I need a little more sound but don’t want as loud as my two speaker system can go.

I’m always impressed with the build quality of Anker products. But they surprised me with the Anker SoundCore Nano Bluetooth Speaker. It isn’t heavy but isn’t all that light. Its built to last and the matt aluminum-alloy body looks good sitting on my desk or workbench.

The Details…

A few months ago Anker held a contest and I was one of the winners! They sent me the Anker SoundCore Nano Bluetooth Speaker along with a few other things.

Anker SoundCore Nano Bluetooth Speaker

When the Speaker arrived it was in the simple easy to open package that most Anker products come in. It comes packed with everything you need to get your speaker running.

First thing I did was install the lanyard and plug it into my Anker USB Hub. A few hours later the speaker was ready to go.

I pressed the power button down and held it for a few seconds. The blue LED light started flashing. I think it connected my LG G4 on the first try. Anker Bluetooth product typically do. In less than 3 minutes I was listening to music through my speaker.

The sound was pretty good, better than I thought it would be. I listen to a variety of music and most of it sounds good on it. It doesn’t have a lot of base and you can tell its a mono speaker. The highs and mids are strong and clear. If you need your speaker to be loud this one gets loud enough you can hear it a room or two away. It does start to crackle with heavy base songs at full strength.

I’ve only used it once to talk to someone. It acts as a speaker phone. I could hear the caller and they could hear me. I prefer to use the phone over the speaker when I need to talk to someone.

The Soundcore Nano only has one button. Its to power up the device. You need to use the controls on your phone to reverse, forward, or pause. You will use the sound controls on the phone to turn it up or down.

If you want to carry your phone and leave the Soundcore near you as you work its doable. If I’m holding my phone and outside I can get just over 30 feet before the connection gets poor. If the phone is in my pocket it can cut the distance in half. It depends on your phone, where the phone is, and where your speaker is. When inside, I can leave the phone on the charger and take the speaker in the next room. I can only get one wall between the phone and speaker before the connection gets fuzzy.

Final Thoughts

I have to say the Anker SoundCore Nano Bluetooth Speaker is a great way to get music and other audio sources from you phone without using the low quality speaker on your phone. It has better than average sound, it looks good, and it portable.

The only issue I have is that it scratches easily. It needs a case or a sleeve to protect it when you are travelling or its in your pocket. I scratched mine when it rubbed up against something in my bag.

I highly recommend this speaker if you need a small single speaker system or on a budget. This one will give you the extra sound that you are wanting at price slightly higher than the cheap gas station varieties but it sounds way better!

If you are looking for another option, you might try some of the other models by Anker. Maybe their two speaker systems if you need higher quality sound or one of their rugged models. I haven’t tried their other models yet and hope to test those soon. But I trust Anker and their products and highly recommend them.
