Anker PowerDrive+ 2 Port Car Charger – Review
About a year ago my mother was in town and miss placed her cheap car charger. I offered to get her a good one that she could charge both her iPhone and iPad at the same time.
Since we were about to leave for a road trip to west Texas I decided to run into Walmart and pick up the Anker PowerDrive+ 2 Port Car Charger. Normally I would buy Anker products from Amazon (better options and newer generation products) but I needed the charger by 6 A.M.
I decided on the Anker Powerd Drive+ 2 Port Car Charger because Amazon has it listed as highly rated item and listed it at 4.5 stars. Without question and trusting the quality that Anker has on all of their products I picked one up.
At First Glance…
As always the packaging is a simple easy to open box that shows off the product. Once you remove the plastic tape seals, everything pulls out into one nice little box.
I have to say this is a nice looking unit. It blends into the car’s interior and the red LED stripe looks good when lit up at night. It gives it enough light to see the charger but not enough to blind you.
It has a nice heavy feel to it. Its designed to not only charge your devices quickly but its also designed last.
The metal ports that connect to the outlet are nice and firm. You can tell the difference between a cheap one and this one. This one is designed to last.
In Use…
I used this device all day to keep my LG G4 charged and I used an Anker Powerline Micro-USB cable to charge my phone. It didn’t over heat the phone and charged the phone from 10% to 100% in about an hour. Once charged, I used the charger to keep my phone charged while using Google Maps to give me directions to our different destinations and listening to Spotify. During this heavy use, it didn’t overheat and kept the phone fully charged.
While was charging my device, my mom’s iPhone 7 Plus was charging via an Anker PowerLine+ Lighting Cable and I had no issues charging her phone. I did notice it did not charge as fast as mine. But it did charge faster then the OEM wall charger and her cheap car charger.
My mother has been using this charger for about a year now and loves it. Her riders love it to. They don’t have to bring there own car chargers on long trips. They just have to remember to bring a cable.
Anker PowerDrive+ 2 Port Car Charger – Final Thoughts
After using the Anker PowerDrive+ 2 Ports Car Charger and hearing how much my mom and her friends like it I’m impressed. What I don’t like is the size. For such a large body it needs a third port. Anker does have an Anker PowerDrive+ 3 Car Charger and I would recommend that one over the 2 port option if you don’t need all that power. Just keep in mind, the 3 port chargers and 2 port slim lines may not have as high of wattage as the Anker PowerDrive+ 2 Ports Car Charger
If you are in need of space saving car chargers, Anker has a few other options that might work for you. But if you have the room and only need two ports and want that extra power, this is a great option at a great price. At the time of this article was written Amazon has it listed at $19.97. If you need it in a hurry, Wal-Mart has them in stock for about the same price.
Below are a few other options from Anker. I haven’t had the chance to test these other devices and hope to get the chance to in the future. But judging by the high ratings on Amazon on the Anker chargers and knowing the quality of Anker Products, these should be great options to try out.
