For the last five years Tupps Brewery has hosted the Ratrodtober Car and Bike Show. This show is a celebration of historic cars and bikes and those build them, restore them, and love them. On October 12, 2019 Ratrodtober: #5 was held and it was great show. I finally finished up processing the images from the show and wanted to share them today. You can find the complete collection over at Flickr.

Ratrodtober: #5 Car and Bike Show – The Details

Ratrodtober: #5

As the name implies the show is all about Rat Rods and the show is held sometime in October. If you don’t like Rat Rods but are more into hot rods and other classics, these cars are also there. You will find mixture of everything but a large portion of the show is all about the Rat Rod. In addition to the old cars, you will find old motorcycles, custom baggers, vintage bicycles, and lower rider bicycles.

This year’s show also included Mini Bike Races, Motorcycle Stunt Bike show sponsored by Kareless, food vendors, Tupps beer, and a live music.

Ratrodtober: #5 Car and Bike Show – My Thoughts on the Show

This year’s show was the first time I have had a Saturday off from work or I didn’t have plans on the day of the show. I got to the show around 11 am and was there until 2 pm. I spent a lot of time watching the mini bike races and stunt bikes. When I wasn’t watching the shows or hanging out in Tupps, I was talking with people at the show or car owners. Overall it was a great show. But sadly with the rain the day befor and 4+ other major car shows happened that day the cars were limited compared to previous shows (according to people who were at previous shows).

I was a bit annoyed with the crowds. Most of the people at the show didn’t have Car Show Etiquette, people were touching the cars without permission, taking pictures with cars by leaning on them or even getting inside them without permission! I even saw someone put his beer down on a car so he could take a selfie with another car. Some people brought their dogs to the show. Dogs are great but many car owners would prefer not to have to worry about a possible dog peeing on their car. At most of the car shows I go to, you don’t see this. I even heard one car owner said he won’t bring his car to the next year show.

The mini bikes race were fun to watch. It was fun watching grown men, women, and children racing around the grass track. But you can only do that for so long before you want to move along.

The stunt show was fun. It was a bunch of guys on motorcycles popping crazy wheelies, smoking the tires and doing some tricks. For this particular show the stunts were as technical as I have seen at other events. So doing the same stunts over and over again got me to move on to the car show.

The cars and bikes at the show were impressive. There were a lot of rat rods, and old bikes on display. But the handful of hot rods and baggers were also impressive.

Inside the brewery is where I found the live music and just outside in the back area of the brewery I found the food vendors. My friends said they were line for over an hour to get food. That included time waiting to order and then have their food cooked and served. Everyone I talked to said the food was good and as always the beer was good. They had a great selection of IPAs and Stouts on draft that day. As to the music I only had a few minutes to listen to them and the cover band sound good as well.

About the Images

The images were shot during bright sunlight using my Sony a6000 and my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS with a UV Filter by hand or using my SunPak 6700m Monopod. For some shots I used my Godox TT685s flash set for fill flash.  The images were then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs A.I. Clear and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the images, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
