This week’s random image is a picture of Big Brutus, the second largest electric-shovel ever belt. I took these pictures a few years back while on business trip and just had to stop by on my way home from the trip.

Big Brutus

Big Brutus

Big Brutus is nickname given to the of the Bucyrus-Erie model 1850-B electric shovel and rolled off the assembly line in 1963. It was shipped to Kansas by using a 150 rail cars and assembled on site. It was in operation until 1974. The mining company was no longer using the mining site and it was to large an expensive to move. In 984 the mining company donated Big Brutus to a mining museum in Kansas. It was and is the center piece of the museum.

At some point I will write an article about the Big Brutus and share the rest of the pictures from the mining museum.

About the Image

The image was shot by hand in the afternoon on a gloomy day with my Sony Nex-3N and a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 lens. I then edited the image in Adobe Lightroom. Next, I post processed with Topaz Clarity to add texture, brighten, and bring out the details in the image. Then I removed the dust spots. Finally, I used Topaz DeNoise to remove the noise from the image.
