This week’s random image is of the interior of the old Piedmont Church in Jefferson County, Mississippi. I took this picture back in May 2021 during a rainy day rural explore. I’ve been out to this old church a few times over the years and each time it gets a little worse. Normally the church is locked down and the only images were through the windows or broken glass for interior shots. This last visit this wasn’t the case.

The Forgotten Service

The Forgotten Service

The church isn’t abandoned but its hidden deep in the woods and not very easy to get to. The dirt roads are torn up or just too muddy to drive on for most cars and SUVs. Family and neighbors watch the church and maintain the property.

During this visit I noticed that the doors were wide open as if the church is waiting for its congregation to enter the build for one last service. I normally stop long enough to get a few exterior shots but, since the doors were wide open I decided to get a closer look and close the doors if no one was around, Possibly even see if I can secure the doors so they won’t blow open. Unfortunately the doors were no longer attached and it looked recent. Nothing was taken from the church (nothing of value is left) and no vandalism. At some point, someone will fix the doors close it off.

About the Image

The forgotten service image was shot on a late rainy afternoon. I used my Sony a6000 and my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS lens and a mono pod. The image was then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs A.I. Clear  and Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI and DXO NIK Collection
