This week’s random image is of abandoned service in Burkett, Texas. The old service station was an accidental find as I was checking out a lead for an abandoned building in that little town.

Abandoned Service Station in Burkett, Texas

Back in July 2017 I took a day trip out to West Texas to do a little exploring. One of my stops was giving to me from a photographer friend. The lead was an abandoned gymnasium in Burkett. What I found was the old gym wasn’t abandoned, it was converted into a community center. It wasn’t being used but it was still being maintained. So I drove around town looking for other cool places to photograph.

While exploring the town I found a lot of abandoned houses and along the highway I came across this old service station. It hasn’t been used for a service station for decades. The old gas price sign shows the price of gas at .79 cents a gallon. I haven’t seen those prices since the 90s if not earlier. From some of the signs in the windows may have some sort of plumbing and parts service building. Maybe the offices for a plumber.

About the Image

The abandoned service station in Burkett, Texas was shot on a bright sunny day in July using my Sony a6000 Camera with a Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 Lens.  I then edited the image with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
