Old Service Station in Illinois Bend, Texas

After checking out the old Illinois Bend School I decided to explore what’s left of the old town. After driving around I realized Illinois Bend is like many other small rural towns, All that left is a few houses, maybe a church, and a building or two. Illinois Bend has always been a small town it had around 300 people in the mid-1800s but by World War II there was about 70 people.

As to the old service station, its being taken care of but its hasn’t been a service station in years. Its probably being used as storage. The building looks to be in decent shape and in the last ten years the stucco plaster has been refreshed or it was originally applied to last.

I haven’t been able to find the name of the old service station or any other information about the place. I will have to ask around next time in the area. But the old storage station may have been gone so long that no one around remembers.

If you know anything about this old service station, please contact me. I am currently planning to add this old service station to Vanishing Texas and want to document its history.

About the Image

The old service station in Illinois Bend, Texas was shot on a cloudy sunny afternoon in August using my Sony a6000 Camera and with a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 lens.  I then edited the image with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs A.I. Clear and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
