In my previous Kelowna post I mentioned it was a rainy Thursday and did some hiking, walking around downtown, visited a farm, had some gelato made from goat’s milk, and dinner downtown. Today I want share a few pictures taken from trips to downtown.

After we finished up at Paul’s Tomb Trail we went into down and explored the downtown area near Rotor Marsh. We started in Rhapsody Plaza and walking around the waterfront park into Rotary Marsh nature area following Brandt Creek nature trail, through a couple of blocks of downtown until we found a place to eat.

During this part of the day it was raining hard enough that I didn’t take my camera with me. The pictures were taken with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

About Rotary Marsh

Rotary Marsh - Kelowna, B.C.

Rotary Marsh is an environmental project of the Rotary Club of Kelowna that was started in 1992. This area is actually an estuary near the Grand Okanagan Resort and Hotel where Brandt’s Creek meets Okanagan Lake.

Back in 1992 Brandt’s Creek was polluted with industrial waste, agricultural run-off, and all the trash from the streets of Kelowna that the storm sewers collected and sent emptied into the creek. Rotarians John Woodworth and Art Hughes-Games created a plan to help the creek, the lake, and give the city beautiful piece of nature that city needed.

The project was to create a marshland and a teaching facility that teaches us the importance of the marshland. When I have some more time I will share more of the images from Marsh and go into more details about Rotary Marsh.

Arion Therapeutic Farm

Arion Therapeutic Farm

After lunch we visited Arion Therapeutic Farm and did an informal tour of the farm. The farm is a farm sanctuary for people and animals on 12 acres in a valley in South-East Kelowna. Arion is a volunteer-driven protect. Arion offers various programs surrounding organic farming, animal care, and horse experiences.

Arion Therapeutic Farm

This is a great farm and does a lot of good for the community and the animals that come into their care. When you visit the farm and do the tours the money is given as a donation that will be used in the operating costs for the farm.

Arion Therapeutic Farm

I had the chance to visit the horses and met/pet Sunny the hog. The other animals we met really weren’t interested visiting with us.

Carmelis Alpine Goat Cheese Artisan

Carmelis Alpine Goat Cheese Artisan

After stopping by the farm we made a stop at Carmelis Alpine Goat Cheese Artisan to have goat’s milk Gelato. It tasty stuff. We found out that they changed ownership a few years ago. So no tour as we did ten years ago. I believe they changed their recipes for the goat chees and gelato as well. The guys in the store mentioned that although that many of their products are made from goat’s milk and they add some cow’s milk or some part of the milk to their products. The original recipes were created without cow’s milk because the owner’s child was highly allergic to cow’s milk. So they only used goat’s milk sense is very similar to human produced milk and most people with dairy intolerances and dairy allergies can drink goats milk and each goat’s cheese without issues. I have both intolerances and allergies to cow’s milk so getting to have goat cheese and gelato without getting sick was impressive. With the change to the recipe I got a little sick.

Dinner – Downtown Kelowna, B.C.

Downtown Kelwona, B.C.

After finishing up with the farm we stopped at a couple of wineries and then we had dinner in downtown at Thai Terrace. As we were looking for parking I spotted a couple of cool murals on the side of several buildings, and took a couple of street shots.

The Kelowna Courier

Kelowna Courier

As we were leaving the parking garage on foot I saw and empty building with the number 1928 on at the top with a concrete logo saying this building was the Kelowna Courier. The building was originally built as a one story building but in 1928 a second story was added. At some point I will share the whole story.

Wall Murals

I came across these murals as we were walking towards Thai Terrace.

As we got closer to our destination I saw some wall art I had to  get a closer look. By this time the family was getting annoyed but this kind of art always gets my attention. Down one side of an apartment building outer wall and the outer wall of the building backing up to the apartments was this huge tribal art wall art installation and other side of the lot was mural of Batman in Gotham City. Once again I will share the complete collection of images in a future post.

Thai Terrace

Pad Thai - Thai Terrace in Downtown, Kelowna, B.C.

Thai Terrace is a popular place. We were seated quickly but the place was packed. I ordered a Black Widow by Tin Whistle Brewing but it took almost 30 minutes to get it served because no one knew how to change the tap.

Our dinners came out about 10 minutes later. Food, drinks, and staff were excellent. Staff kept apologizing for the delay. They were short staffed and wasn’t expecting a large crowed that night. Defiantly a place I would try again next time I’m in town.

About the Images

I shot the images with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 by hand on a gloomy rainy day. The images were then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs A.I. Clear and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the images, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
