Christ Episcopal Church in Church Hill, Mississippi – A Brief History

I won’t go much into detail today since I plan on writing up its history and sharing pictures from both the inside and outside. I will just share it from their website.

“Christ Church, in Church Hill, Mississippi is a Mission Station of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi, and a Partner-in-Mission to Trinity Church, Natchez.  Christ Church was the first Episcopal congregation founded in the State of Mississippi, in 1820, and and the current church building, built in 1857, is a national landmark.” – Christ Episcopal Church

When my wife and I were passing through town a few years ago we were given permission to photograph the interior and one of the members took us on a tour and explained the history about various features of the church. I wish I had taken notes or had a recorder. I thought I would remember it all.

The one thing that stood out was an old wooden cross sitting in a back closet. I was told it came off the roof and they were wanting to restore it and put it back up on the roof. They just needed the funds to do it. The  group I was talking with were passionate about it.

When I made the visit again in February 2020 I found the cross was back up on the church!

When I have some time and I can make it work out I plan on reaching out to the church and see if I can reshoot and talk with them about the church’s history.
