A couple of days ago I received an email from Topaz Labs that they released a new version of Topaz Sharpen AI. The New Version is Sharpen AI 3.0 and to celebrate the release Topaz labs is putting it on sale and even offering a discount code you can stack on the sale price to get it even cheaper.
What is Topaz Sharpen AI 3.0
I won’t go into much detail today. There is a ton info on the Topaz Sharpen AI Page and examples of what the software can do. Topaz says the they use intelligent image sharpen to make our pictures stand out. Their software works differently from other sharpening tools. Sharpen AI does it by targeting and reversing three specific types of blur that creates more natural results. The three types of blur are:
- Motion: “The Motion model was trained to reduce motion blur caused by a shaky camera or moving subject. Often, you won’t even think there’s motion blur in your image… until you see the before/after from this model.” -Topaz Labs
- Focus: “The Focus model reduces lens blur caused by missed focus. This is the toughest use case and won’t recover 100% of your photos. When it works, though, it works really well and can completely recover a throwaway image”. – Topaz Labs
- Softness:”The Softness model works best to give already-good images that extra “pop” while making sure it stays natural. Use instead of traditional sharpening on finely detailed features like eyes, feathers, leaves, and stars”. – Topaz Labs
My Thoughts
I haven’t had much time with the upgrade but so far I love it’s so much faster than the version I was using and the pictures seem to clean them up even better. Here’s a before and after of a Bull Buffalo in a creek bed. The top photo was processed using Topaz DeNoise AI, Sharpen AI 3.0, and DxO NIK Collection to process the image. The bottom picture is the blurry image straight out the camera. For more pictures make sure to check out Topaz Sharpen AI Page.
