A few miles north east of Paris, Texas is a small unincorporated town, called Faught. There isn’t much left of the original town. The early years wasn’t kind to this little town. But in the last 10 years the housing boom in the area has brought in a lot of large acreage ranches and communities. Today’s article is about one of the few remaining original buildings in town. Its the abandoned Faught Union Church, in Faught, Texas.
The Abandoned Faught Union Church in Faught, Texas – History
After some research and asking a few people that live in the area, I didn’t find much history on the church. I found an article from the Paris Paper from 1945 that was an ad for the the church. It was city for the men of Paris to come out the church for a men’s group. They said that the last meeting had over a 160 men show up and had a goal of reach 200 men at the next meeting.
Most of the locals that I spoke to moved to the area after the church been abandoned years before. One person I spoke to said he had been the area for about 30 years and doesn’t remember the church being used in that time period. He said most of the town elders were no longer in the area and gave me the name of someone that might know more.
I make the trip to the Paris several times a year, during my next visit I plan to ask around and check with the county history museum and see what they might know.
If you know anything about this church, contacts or places to check, please contact me. I plan on writing a complete history over at Vanishing Texas.
My Visit
The church is a total lose. The roof has collapsed and most of the wall look to be rotten. The building is unstable and unsafe. If nature doesn’t take the building, community will have the building torn down for safety reasons.
About the Images
The images were shot by hand on a gloomy day using my Sony a6000 and the Sony 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 OSS Power Zoom Lens. I then used Adobe Lightroom, Topaz Labs A.I. Clear and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
