TP-Link AC750 WiFi Range Extender – Review
I’ve been using the TP-Link AC750 WiFi Range Extender for about 5 months to extend my network to the far side of the house and outdoor areas around the house. Since setting it up I haven’t had any issues with device connections, connections to the router, or reconnects after a power outage. Network and internet speeds are fast and I haven’t noticed a slow down on the network.
First Impressions
TP-Link AC750 WiFi Range Extender
The WiFi Range Extender looks good and looks to made well. It comes in a modern matte white plastic that is stream lined so it sits close to the wall and doesn’t stand out all that much. The LED status lights are just bright enough to let know know what’s going on but not be blinding at night. With its modern look it won’t be out of place in a modern designed house.
I have an old Netgear WN3500RP Universal Dual Band WiFi Range Extender (my review) and its about twice the size of the TP-Link AC750. Its also slower and sometimes has issues reconnecting to the network after a power outage. When the Netgear device was new it was a great unit but now its old technology and there are better options on the market worth looking at if you need Netgear products.
Setup
Setup is easy, just follow the instructions. If you use WPS just press the button on your router for a few seconds and do the same thing your TP-LInk and they will connect. You will need to do this for each network ( 2. 4GHz / 5GHz). Make sure to read the instructions, it will tell how long to hold the buttons.
Once connected to your network, use the app or web browser to log in and configure the WiFi Range Extender. after its configured, it should have the same network login (unless you changed it) so log into on all your devices and set it for auto connect. Now as you wonder around the house, the device will connect to strongest connection.
Testing
I found the setup to be easy and only took a few minutes to setup. It is one of fastest devices I have had to configure in a while. The app works great and so does the web browser interface.
As to actual testing of the unit, I have all of our WiFi cameras and smart plugs/lights setup on this network. I also have our cell phones, tablets, and computers set to auto connect when needed.
During the speed tests I found that the network slowed only a little and most of the devices on main network didn’t show any signs of lag. However, the further I got away from the router (even connected to the range extender) my network speeds slowed down. But not enough to worry about when browsing or doing audio streaming. My cameras do have some issue when streaming from them, but some of that may be our older router can’t handle multiple camera streams.
TP-Link AC750 WiFi Range Extender does a great job at reconnecting after a power outage or a router reset. It only takes a couple of minutes to connect to the network and reconnect all devices to it.
Final Thoughts
The TP-Link AC750 WiFi Range Extender is a great budget friendly WiFi range extender. It works great with older routers and plays well with new systems. However this range extender isn’t a mesh router and will not work as a mesh system. It will connect to the network but create a separate network that your devices can connect to. If you have a mesh system I would suggest getting a unit that has a mesh feature or only works with mesh networks.
Overall I believe this is a great little device and will come in handy on an extending network. I have already recommended this router to my friends and family. I also recommend this router to my readers as well. As always, if an issues comes up or if fails with in the next year or so, I will update this review with my findings.
