TaoTronics TT-BH046 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones – The Review
I’ve been using the TaoTronics TT-BH046 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones for just over a week and they are currently my go-to over-the-ear headphones. During the last week, I put the headphones through a variety of tests. Those tests includes build quality, sound quality, battery life, charge time, and comfort levels over time.
First Impressions
The headphones come in a nice cardboard box with pictures of the headphones. Once opened, I found the headphones case was all the box needed to keep its shape. I then opened the case up and found inside the case was the headphones, paperwork, Micro USB cable, and an AUX cable.
The case is a nice hard case but the inside isn’t molded foam. Its just an open case with a lock and loop strap to old the earphones secure. Then the other side of the case has a pouch to hold your cables.
The headphones are made well. They are made with metals and plastics. All the failure points on the over-the-ear headphones are sturdy metal parts. The ear cups have a padded leather like material and speaker screen that covers the speakers.
The ear cups are large enough to cover larger ears but not so big that the headphones fit loose on my head. On the right ear cup you find all the controls. You have noise cancellation button, volume up/down and reverse/forward bottoms (volume controls also control forward and reverse), power button, AUX port, and the Mic. To charge the headphones you can plug the cable into the left ear cup.
Testing
The TaoTronics TT-BH046 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones easily synced to my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in seconds. Once connected, my BatOn app estimated that the battery life was at 50%.
After playing with the volume controls I set the volume at 80% and opened Spotify and tried out some songs from country, rap, rock, southern rock, metal, blues, and electronic genres. At first I was a little concerned. The music quality wasn’t near good enough for me to want to use it. With past experience I found that some speakers need a little time to start sounding good. So I figured that I would have a better idea about the quality in a few days of use.
So I charged the headphones up. The next day I played music all day on them. By the end of the day, the music was sounding good. The lows, mids, and highs sounded good. As good as my Anker Space NC Over-the-Ear Headphones.
Where and How I Tested the Headphones
Since this headphones were designed to be used for everyday uses. I tested the headphones at home, at the gym, on the tractor, walking/hiking, yard work, and walking on the treadmill.
At Home and On the Treadmill
Overall these headphones work well in almost every environment. I only use the headphones at home when I want to listen to music when working from home, late at night or when I’m on the treadmill. I found that listening at home blocks out noise when the noise cancellation was activated. On the treadmill the active noise cancellation works well. It blocks a lot of the noise from the treadmill and you still hear your audio well enough that it you forget about the treadmill sounds overtime. And they stay on my head as I walk fast or lean over to pick something up.
In the Gym
In the gym, these work great. They block out the bad music they play throughout the building and the conversations you might not want hear some these guys talk about. I did a variety of workouts including deadlifts, shrugs, calf raises on the standing machine, overhead rows, cable works out and non those works caused my headphones to shift or fall off.
Walking and Hiking in the Great Outdoors
As to just walking around or hiking, these headphones work great. They didn’t fall at a fast pace walk or going up/down stairs. I wouldn’t recommend using these for hiking or areas that you are unfamiliar with. These block out so much background noise you won’t hear someone coming from behind, someone on a bicycle, or a wild animal giving off a warning sound as you come up on it.
Working Outdoors
Over the last week I had some time off of work and the weather was perfect for outdoor work. I was able do some weeding, lawn cutting, brush cutting and some tractor work. I found these to be comfortable to wear for hours and they never once shifted when I leaned over or when I was bounced around. The headphones did a good job at blocking mower and tractor loud noises. These are not designed to make loud environments safe for your ears but it does lower loud noises and makes easier to listen to music.
Battery Life and Charge Time
In the last week I’ve only had to charge my TaoTronic TT-BH046 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones two times. One of those times was when I left noise cancelling on but turned off the headphones. When I did this it burned that the battery up over night. But at 80% volume I get about 30 hours of charge and it only takes a couple of hours to get a full charge.
Final Thoughts
After using the TaoTronics TT-BH046 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones for a week in different environments I am impressed. These have great sound and they fit my head and large almost perfectly. They aren’t to tight but just tight enough that they won’t fall off my head if I bend over.
I listen to lot music all day when I’m working from home and watch videos on YouTube when I have time. I found the earphones to be comfortable to wear all day but did get a little hot when it was hot outside.
The case is strong enough to throw the case in my gym bag or backpack and not worry about the headphones getting crushed. The earphones are also designed to be sturdy with metal parts so they shouldn’t break to easily. The only feature it doesn’t have is being foldable. But being able to fold creates a failure point that I’ve seen on other brands break before other parts fail. So this could be a good thing if you don’t need this space saving feature.
If you are in the need of a good pair of wireless over-the-ear headphones and want to save a little money, then check out the TaoTronics TT-BH046 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones. I highly recommend them.
