I have several different Soundcore Wireless Headphones and earbuds and several other brands. But each time I buy another brand to replace an older Soundcore product I’m not happy with the product. So I end up giving those others away and getting a pair of Soundcore earbuds instead. I’ve tried several premium brands and I find for the price (usually a lot cheaper) Soundcore makes a good sounding quality product. Being an owner of the Soundcore Spirit X and seeing the Soundcore Spirit X2 and Spirit Dot 2 released a while back), I knew it was time to replace my warn out pair of TWS that wasn’t really designed for the gym for the Soundcore Spirit Dot 2 True Wireless Earbuds. I originally wanted and still want a pair of Spirit X2 but decided for now I want to get a pair of the small earbud style that have the hooks and are less noticeable than the Airpod styles. I have several pairs of Airpod Styles and I feel they aren’t really designed for the gym. They tend to fall out when I get bumped or doing activities were I’m active.

Soundcore Spirit Dot 2 True Wireless Earbuds – The Review
Soundcore Spirt Spirit Dot 2 fits my needs. The hooks and default installed earpads fit my ears perfectly. Normally I have to play with the supplied ones to find the right ones. So far they have only fallen out a few times and that was because they weren’t seated in my ear canal properly. They fell out because a strap from my gear bag brushed against them once or twice. I have noticed the ear hook rubber might be stretching out because the hooks came loose and slipped down around the earbud when I took them out of my ears (happened twice so far). I found that doing a slight twist and pull helps prevents this (the opposite of how you are supposed to put them in your ears). When I put them in my ears they correct right a way and they do well at blocking outside noises. They are NOT good enough to block out push and riding mower noise. At least with the push mower, they do a decent job at blocking out noise.
Charging and Playback
As to battery play back time, I found that Soundcore’s estimated number at 80% is a good estimate. Since I’m not getting out much and my gym is on limited ours, I haven’t been able to do a longer than a few hours at a time playback. So far I can go about a week or two of 2 hours of play back without having to recharge the case. Soundcore’s charge time claims are reasonable as well. Its faster than my older Soundcore products and other branded TWS earbuds.
The Controls
I don’t like the touch controls. Then again I don’t like them on any of the earbuds from any brand. They are too sensitive. Putting them in my ears, taking them out or adjusting the fit, may change what’s playing on the earbuds. Once you get use them, they do work. When my hands are full I will use the controls.
Sound Quality
Talking to other people works well. No complaints from them and I hear them clearly as well. Even outside when there was a little wind, I didn’t have any issues. Because of the design, my beard doesn’t interfere with the mic.
Sound quality is better than I thought! From my experience, many of these smaller earbud styles don’t have the music sound quality I’m looking for. Songs that have a lot base with other brands just didn’t cut it. They were ok or good enough to use. But with these, they are better than good enough. The lows, mids, and highs all sound good.
Issues
I have noticed some connectivity issues and general wonky issues with the earbuds. When I first got them I had issues pairing them to my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. When they did pair, only one would pair up. Following the instructions for resetting the earbuds didn’t always work and following the instructions to reset and power down from the manual is straight forward but it didn’t always reset or power down. I’ve only had to power down twice and reset twice and both times it took two tries to turn off and 3 times to get the earbuds to reset.
As to pairing mode, the first week I had them, they were working fine and then one day one earbud wouldn’t pair up. I had to power down and reset. Once paired again, I’ve haven’t had any issues.
I also found that sometimes I have choppy connections when the phone was in the back pocket. This may be an issue Spotify or Samsung music. Using audible, Libby, or podcasts didn’t have this issue. In the house I can walk about 30 feet away or into the next room and have clear signal on the phone or listening to audio. Outside with clear line of sight it’s more like 50 to 100 feet. So when Spotify gets choppy, I turn off all extra apps and move the phone to front pocket right pocket as Soundcore recommends. Then no more issues.
Another issue I noticed is that sometimes when I put away the earbuds, the earbuds wouldn’t disconnect from the phone. I had to go into the phone to end the pairing. This could be an issue with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
A new issues that started about 3 months ago is the wings do not stay in place when I take off the earbuds. I think they stretched out. It’s annoying but since I only use them when working out or doing things that require the active lifestyle earbuds is minimal I can deal with it.
Final Thoughts
Overall the Soundcore Spirit Dot 2 True Wireless Earbuds are great pair of earbuds and they are now my go-to active use earbuds. If you are looking for a nice pair of quality earbuds that you can use at the gym, running, or just for everyday uses, I would recommend these to my friends and family that need a pair of TWS earbuds but do not want to pay premium prices. Just keep in mind, the high end premium brands may sound better. It all depends on what that premium brand you are using.
They get 5 stars since I can’t do a 4.5 rating. I like these a lot and think they are better than a 4 star ratings. The issues are easy fixes and may even be issues that will go away when I get my new phone in a few months. As always I will update this review if needed.
