I have several LED Light Panels and mostly use them for static low-light photo shoots and light painting events where I need a lot of light. All of those lights work great but once I got my hands on the SmallRig RM120 5000mAh Camera Light Panel I realized they are just adequate compared to this panel.

SmallRig RM120 5000mAh Camera Light Panel – The Review

As I mentioned above I have several LED Light Panels and always have at least one in my gear bag. After doing a count, I have 4 panels of various brightnesses and color options. All of them last about an hour and hold a charge for months. As to the SmallRig RM120 5000mAh Camera Light Panel, I compared it to one of my best panels in quality, brightness, and charge uptime. Ideally, I would have run several long tests but I haven’t done any night/low light photo shoots in a few months and may not for another few months. However, I did use the panel for some basic product photography and the products were lit up enough. The panel is better suited for front-on shots and video work. You will need several other panels placed around the subject for project photography. Once I have some better product images I will share them.

First Impressions

LED Light Panel

The light is made well and the silicon light diffuser does a great job of blocking out the bright glare. The foam case isn’t all that great. It won’t protect the light if I drop the panel or get smashed against something in my photography tools bag.

Charging

SmallRig - LED Light Panel Controls

It gives you the option to charge with USB-C or Micro USB. It comes with a micro USB. I’ve been trying to get rid of those cables for years and only keep a few on hand. So I grabbed one of my USB-C cables and charging blocks (doesn’t come with one) and charged it up. It charges quickly and holds a charge for at least an hour of operation. I haven’t had the chance to run it constantly but combined it’s about an hour. It doesn’t get too hot and is perfect for a light stand, tripod mount, or part of a camera rig.

Final Impressions

I find it perfect for lighting up my subjects in a small room or brightly lighting up something when I get up close. As my other panels need to be replaced, I plan to replace them with SmallRig RM120 5000mAh Camera Light Panel or a similar SmallRIg product.
