Over the last few months I have been interested in and researching Home Automation, Smart Home Technologies and cutting the cord (Getting Rid of DirectTV/Cable TV Services). In recent months I have purchased a new Smart Thermostat (review coming soon), RoboVac (review coming soon), smart scale (review coming soon), and just a week ago received a set of Wifi Smart Plugs. Today I wanted to share my experience with the new Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket.

Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket – The Review

Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket

I have been using the Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket for about week now and I have to say I am impressed. I read some reviews that the Smart Life App by Tuya Inc. Android | iOS doesn’t work or its limited. But I found that the app and smart sockets work as they are designed to do. Below is my review.

Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket – First Impression

The smart sockets came in an updated box design and not their traditional brown box. The new box design is white and green. The colors and design matches the new look of Blitzwolf’s website.

After opening the box I found 3 nicely displayed sockets along with the happy/sad and manufacture cards. The sockets came out easily and they feel solid and look to be made well.

But they are a little on the large size. They are slightly larger then the standard socket so it partially blocks the second socket. I was able to plug in 2 prong devices but if it had a bulky plug head or a transformer on it I would not be able use the second socket without an extension outlet.

Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket – First Start Configuration

Setup is easy. Just download the app from the Play Store or from iTunes and install it. plug in one of the smart sockets (power button should be rapidly blinking) and let the app find the socket. Once found, follow the apps install steps and you are good to go.

Then complete the steps for each smart plug. It took me about 10 minutes to install the app and configure the 3 sockets.

Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket – Socket Configuration

So far I have used the timers and countdown features to control my smart sockets. To configure each one to do a certain function easy, just follow these steps.

Select the socket >>> click Switch (powers on/off) >>> select countdown to set a timer or select timer to set times to run or turn off.

To setup a schedule select timer>>> click add schedule >>>Set time to turn on>>> Select the repeat rate>>> Set Switch to on. To turn off the socket repeat the steps but set the set the switch to turn off.

To configure Alexa or Google Home, you need a device that runs either program and then follow the device instructions and then you can use voice commands.

Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket – Operation

After completing the operation configuration I found the timers and countdown timers to work. I had a few times I forgot to set a device to turn on/off or setup the countdown in a way it didn’t turn off (I think I didn’t click save).

Right now I have a plant light setup configured to turn on and off to a set schedule and once I worked out the settings, it turns on/off at the right time.

I have another smart socket setup on a countdown timer that runs a candle warmer. Now we do not have to worry about forgetting to turn it off.

The final socket is setup on a floor fan. Its on a countdown timer. But I mostly use to turn it on and off remotely.

Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket – Future Use

I’m thinking about getting another set. I want to setup a fan on a schedule to turn on and off in the room we house the dog kennels. That room gets hot in the afternoons and we have to leave the air conditioner on or the dogs will get to hot. With the smart sockets I can attach a cooling fan in the door way to pull fresh cool air from another room into the hot room.

I also want to setup my security lighting on these sockets. The only downside is these sockets are not to be used in wet areas. Once I can figure out how to safely use these them outdoors I will setup my security lights turn on and off sun rise/sun set and I can setup my out buildings to turn on/off before I get to the buildings. I really do not like entering these buildings at night. You never know what you might run into out in the country.

Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket – Final Thoughts

Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart SocketAs I mentioned before I am impressed with these sockets and for the price I love them. You can get 3 smart sockets for $30 (price as the time of writing this review). Many of the other brands you only get 1 or 2 sockets for $20 or more. If you are looking to get started with smart plugs, the Blitzwolf BW-SHP1 Wifi Smart Socket is a good way to get started.
