Anker SoundCore Boost 20W Bluetooth Speaker

Anker SoundCore Boost 20W Bluetooth Speaker – Review

The Anker SoundCore Boost 20W Bluetooth Speaker arrived in Anker’s new packaging. Its comes in a black and blue box with a picture of the SoundCore Boost Speaker on the front. I love the new packaging, its an upgrade to their traditional white and blue packaging that many of their earlier products came in.

After opening the box up I saw that the speaker is place safely in the box but still showing off the beauty of this little speaker.

On first impression…

The speaker looks like any other speaker box. But unlike many of the other small portable dual speaker systems is on the heavier side. The top and bottom of the speaker is covered in a non slick rubber material. The top buttons are also coated in the material and is seamless. It just has the button spots imprinted.

The sides have upgraded modern speaker fabric wrapped around the rigid body. On one side of the speaker is a water tight rubber flap that protects the Micro-USB port, USB Port, and 3.5 AUX port.

Connectivity and First Time Use…

After looking over the speaker I turned the device on and easily connected to my LG G4 and was using the speaker in less than a minute. After checking the charge on the device, I powered down the speaker and charged it to 100%.

Play Back…

After about an hour I reconnected to my phone and let the speaker play my spotify playlist. My list has variety of music genres and I found that the speaker does a great job of playing music. It sounds as good as my sound bar or car system. For such as small speaker its loud! I could hear the music in every room in the house.

The lows, mids, and highs sound as they should. Even if I boost the volume to almost 100% there really isn’t any distortion. The only time I had any issue was when the song had a lot of heavy base in it.

As to the music types, I tried country, rock, heavy metal, rap, electronic, blues, and jazz. All of it sound good. I haven’t found a genre that doesn’t sound good.

Movie Play Back…

On days I have to work out at the house or just running on the treadmill for an hour or so I setup of my notebook or tablet and watch iTunes movies. When I first started using my treadmill, I used the notebook speakers or a set of high end over-the-ear headphones. But this did not work out that well. So I connected the Anker SoundCore Boost 20W Bluetooth Speaker and I was blown away.

I watched Suicide Squad, Dead Pool, and a few comedies. The speaker is loud. The play back was impressive! Its so loud and the base is perfect. Honestly, I think the speaker sounds better than the soundbar/subwoofer combo for movie playback.

Charging Your Phone and Playback Time…

The speaker comes with a 5200mAh battery. Because of this, the speaker is heavier than most portable speakers of its size. But with it size comes the option to charge your device while you are playing music.

I charged my phone one day while listening to music. It did the job. But it does shorten the playtime on your speaker. So I rarely use the speaker to charge my phone.

Because of the batter size, you can listen to music for up to 10 hours (60% to 80% volume). I found this to be about average when playing music. If I am using the speaker to play the sound from laptop the playback time shortens just a little.

The charge time is only a few hours and the standby time is a few months. I haven’t had the speaker long enough to test drain time.

Anker SoundCore Boost 20W Bluetooth Speaker – Final Thoughts

I’ve been using the Anker SoundCore Boost 20W Bluetooth Speaker since December and I have to say I love it. Out of all my portable speakers I use this one the most. The only one that comes in to a close second is the SoundCore Mini 2. I use that one when I don’t need a lot sound or I needed truly portable.

I have nothing but good things to say about the this speaker. I highly recommend them. Currently (as of this writing) the Anker SoundCore Boost is $79.99. To learn more check out the Amazon Sales page or the Anker SoundCore Boost page.

If you are looking for another style of Bluetooth Speakers, check out these other speakers form Anker. They all have 4.5 stars or more. I haven’t tried these speakers yet. But they are by Anker and they make some incredible speakers. You can’t go wrong with Anker Speakers.
