Review: Altura Photo Professional Cleaning Kit for DSLR Cameras and APS-C Sensor Cameras

A few months ago I realized that somehow my Sony a6000 had gotten some dust on the sensor and I needed a cleaning kit designed to safely clean the sensor. So, after doing a lot of research I found that the Altura Photo Professional Cleaning Kit for DSLR Cameras and APS-C Sensor Cameras was the best option. It comes with everything you need to clean your camera. It’s designed to work with any camera that has an APS-C Sensor. If your camera doesn’t have one, then buy the right kit for your camera. It won’t clean everything you need to clean on your camera if it isn’t compatible.

I really like this kit. Everything in it is top notch. The lens pen and blower are not as good as the LensPen brand and the Giottos Rocket Air Blaster.  But, they get the job done in a pinch.

The lens pen feels cheaply made but the brush and cleaning surfaces are made well and they clean my lenses with out issue. The air blower doesn’t have the dust that many of the cheap ones do. So it’s worth keeping it in the kit. Keep your good one in your field kit.

The solution works great for lens and sensor cleaning. The microfiber cloth is of nice quality. I use it to dry the lens and camera after cleaning it.  The lens tissue paper is good as well. I haven’t used them and most likely won’t.

The sensor swabs work great as well. They mostly cover the sensors. I used two of them each time I clean my Sony a6000. But you only get 6 of them and you have to buy the whole kit if you want the swabs again. I emailed Altura and they said they only come with the kit. That is a waste of money and I won’t be buying their kit again. I already have a ton of everything the kit has so the extras would go to the landfill…

The case is nice. I use it to store my cleaning kit. It has a single pocket and I use it to hold the solution. When I buy replacement parts for the kit, I will continue to use the case. If for any reason I would need another case and need more supplies I will buy another kit.

If you are in need of a full cleaning kit and have an APS-C camera or one of the listed compatible camera models I highly recommend this kit. But I would look else where for replacement parts. There are plenty of companies selling sensor swabs and solution. Just make sure to read the reviews. The kit doesn’t come close to having enough swabs. You might have to use 3 swabs at one cleaning. That means you may only get 2 or 3 cleanings before running out. Altura really needs to offer the swabs and solution as separate products. People will buy them.
