The Old Cross Cut High School Ruins in Cross Cut, Texas
About 4 years ago my friend and I came across the ghost town (only few families remain in the area) of Cross Cut, Texas. We drove around a little but since it was well after midnight we didn’t stay long. When I got home, I added this little town as a place to visit and explore when I make out that direction one day.
Back in July 2017 I finally made it back out there I only spent a little while out there since it was to hot, the grass was tall, and it was snake season. Without cell signal and being on my own, I didn’t want to risk getting hurt.
One of the places I wanted to visit was the old Cross Cut High School Ruins, it was well off the main road out in a hay field. I couldn’t see much of the building. It looks like the only part of the school that is left is the front entrance.
As to the school’s history, I couldn’t find much. This is another one of those places that its history may only be available locally. What I did find is a little confusing. From what I found the community came together and built a 2 story brick building school that was built for area students back in the late 1920s and eventually closed its doors in the 1940s when there weren’t enough children in town keep the school open.
That’s about it for the history of the old school. I found a small amount of information on the town, but not much more. If you know more about this old school or the town of Cross Cut, please contact me. I plan on sharing the school and the town’s history over at VanishingTexas.net
The Old Cross Cut High School Ruins in Cross Cut, Texas – About the Image
I shot the Cross Cut High School ruins in Cross Cut, Texas on a bright and sunny early afternoon with my Sony a6000 and a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 lens. I then edited the image in Adobe Lightroom CC. I used Topaz Labs A.I. Clear and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
