The Old Spanish Fort School in Spanish Fort, Texas

The Old Spanish Fort School in Spanish Fort, Texas hasn’t been used a school in decades one of the few buildings left in town.

The Old Spanish Fort School in Spanish Fort, Texas – History

I haven’t found much on the old school. But according the stone sign on the front of the building the school was built in 1924. As to the closure I’m not sure. One source said the school, post office and newspaper were all closed by the 1970s. For years after the closure, the school was used as a community center. During my last visit, I found the school to be in bad shape and stuff was being stored inside and live stock and a Great Pyrenees protected the property.

I plan to make another trip out to Spanish Fort in the future and plan on looking more into the history of the school locally and see what I can find out.

About the Image

The Old Spanish Fort School in Spanish Fort, Texas was shot on a cloudy sunny afternoon in August using my Sony a6000 Camera and with a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 lens.  I then edited the image with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs Denois AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
