This week’s random image is of an old headstone I found in the Liberty Chapel Cemetery in Montague County, Texas. I came across this cemetery back in 2017 during a trip out to Spanish Fort, Texas and I am finally finding the time to work on images from 2017.
The Liberty Chapel Cemetery in Montague County, Texas
Whenever I have the time, I love to visit old cemeteries. My favorites are the small rural cemeteries that are almost forgotten about. For me, these old cemeteries are reminders our past and lost history for the area. On several occasions I was tracking down and old cemetery that was the only remains of the small town to find that the nearby locals living the area didn’t even know there was cemetery near where they live or that there was even a town on their property at one (one person had been in the area for 40+ years and still didn’t know!).
During my road trip to Spanish Fort I came across the Old Liberty Chapel Cemetery, in Montague County, Texas. The cemetery even had an official state sign pointing the way to the road to the cemetery. The cemetery is in decent shape with many head stones. The oldest being from the mid 1880s to newest being placed in the late 1990s (only a couple if I remembered correctly).
The grass was cut but on the longer side and many of the headstones needs string trimmer work. The cemetery fence and entry signed is in need of painting. Other than that the cemetery seems to be in good shape.
After doing a quick internet search I couldn’t find anything about the cemetery other than the possible incomplete list of those buried in the cemetery. There really isn’t much in the area and this cemetery has me asking more questions. So the next time I’m in the area I plan to visit the cemetery and see if I can find more information about the cemetery and the surrounding area.
About the Image
The old Liberty Chapel Cemetery, in Montague County, Texas was shot on a cloudy sunny afternoon in August using my Sony a6000 Camera and with a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 lens. I then edited the image with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs A.I. Clear and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
You see some neat stuff
