One of my resolutions for 2023 is to get and take more photos and share them soon than later. While out running some errands the weather was overcast and the perfect opportunity to explore several backroads by the house. I haven’t been down them in a while and was curious how much of the large ranches had been sold and broken up for small ranch lifestyles. During that trip, I came across three old barns in Collin County, Texas that needed to be photographed. One is in danger of being demolished and the others aren’t being used anymore.
Old Barns in Collin County, Texas
100+ Year Wooden Barn
The first barn was part of a multi-generation horse ranch that recently sold several large tracks of the frontage road property. The new owner is a home builder that builds modern beautiful homes but only uses a few floor plans. He has already installed gate entries and will soon start on the foundation.
The barn looks to be a 100+ year wooden barn that could be saved but will more than likely be torn down. These old barns are expensive to maintain and even more expensive to restore.
Rusty Old Barn
This type of old barn isn’t seen in North Texas that often. They may have been more popular 100 years but today I have seen maybe 3 of them in the last 10 years. I’ve seen this style of the barn up north more often. Back to this barn… the old barn looks to have been resided in metal years ago. In the past, I bet it was a wooden barn. Many of these old barns are resided with metal. The owners simply side over the old wood. This method is quick and easy and can be cheaper than replacing or painting old wood.
Rusty Old Barn #2
This old barn may not be that old but it’s old enough that it caught my eye and it’s not being used anymore.
