The other day Skylum announced their latest extension and sale. That new extension is the Luminar Neo Focus Stacking Extension.
What is Focus Stacking?
The new Focus Stacking Extension combines photos taken at different focal lengths to deliver a crisp result with a greater depth of field than just one of the source photos could achieve. With the extension, you can stack up to 100 source images and automatically align and crop all of them based on the reference photo. The extension will automatically apply lens and chromatic aberration corrections for raw photos.
How does the focus stacking algorithm work in Luminar Neo?
The below information was taken directly from Luminar Neo email.
All photos are aligned using the reference photo selected by the artist. The algorithm identifies key points and aligns the image according to those points.
- The image is divided into small tiles.
- It looks for the most focused and unfocused tiles across different images
- Selects the most focused ones and combine them into one image.
