While exploring in Desoto Parish I came across an old lodge along with a few other buildings. The Liberty Lodge No. 123, F & A M, in Keachi, Louisiana in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, was built originally around 1852 and was rebuilt in 1880 after being destroyed by a tornado.

The Lodge has an interesting history and the records were lost. As I mentioned earlier, the Lodge was completely destroyed or to far damaged to be restored from a tornado. But much of the original was salvaged and used for reconstruction. The new building was built in the same late Greek Revival style and isn’t known if the building was rebuilt as it once one or what changes were made.

The Liberty Lodge No. 123, F & A M, in Keachi, Louisiana is a two-story frame building in late Greek Revival style, and stands prominently in the small community of Keachi. It has a space for a store on the first floor and the lodge meeting hall on the second floor. Extra rooms and an enclosed staircase are to the rear.

The exterior remains much the same with a few updates that could easily be removed to bring it back to the way it looked in the 1880s. Those updates include the replacement of the side windows, the addition of a side lean-to, and the installation of a metal fire escape.

But the interior has been updated over the years. You will find a variety of different types of tongue and groove beaded board. The meeting hall has been modernized with plywood paneling and an acoustical tile ceiling.

Every time I pass by the place its always closed up, but many of the old and new lodges I see are closed more than they are open. The Lodge looks to be in great shape and since the interior has changed over the years, there’s no need to document its interior.
