On the last day of our family trip to Canada it was once again a rainy day. Luckily the rain had stopped early that morning for a few hours so we decided to take another hike. For this trip we ended up hiking Wilden, Kelowna, B.C. an unofficial hiking area that is part of the Wilden Community.
Hiking Wilden, Kelowna, B.C.
As mentioned above Wilden is actually a large community and one of the largest in the area. The community was planned to be part of part nature or surrounded by it. Driving through the community it is a beautiful community but it really isn’t part of nature. Its surrounded by nature. Most of the surrounding land is owned by the developer. Sadly the surrounding acreage will one day be houses. As you walk along the trails you see future pad sites for new homes. I’ve been told the developer doesn’t plan to completely fill the acreage with houses but a large portion might become houses in the future.
The trails themselves are unofficial and at the time of research and learning more about these trails I found them to be maintained by people in the community and the developer will run mowers along the trails several times a year.
I was also told that some of the trails lead to government controlled trails and many of the trails will either lead back to the community or out in the public land and you can hike for days without seeing another person.
Wilden Trails Review
The trails themselves are easy to moderate and a natural dry surface. They have a lot of switchbacks that lead to he top of the different ridges. Also keep in mind that when there is a lot of rain, the trails will be difficult to use. However, even with two days of rains the trails were still usable.
The trail was active with hikers, trail runners, and nature watchers. Many of the hikers were local to the community or lived nearby.
This is an easy trail to hike and from what I was told the rest of this system isn’t much more difficult. According to my Gaia GPS tracking data there was elevation gain of about 366 ft and there areas that go higher. If in the area, I recommend hiking these trails and we plan to revisit these trails in the future.

About the Images
I shot the images with my Sony a6000 using my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS by hand. The images were shot on a gloomy rainy day. The images were then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs A.I. Clear and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the images, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
