One of the things I love about living in the rural North East Texas is there is so much history and a lot of great views just a few minutes from our house. When I have time or just need to get out of the house for a few hours is go for a drive. Generally, I pick a small town anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour away. Then I choose to take back roads or pull up Google Maps and look for abandoned structures to photograph. About a month ago I choose to Explore the Wildcat Thicket near Leonard, Texas. Today, I have some pictures from the area to share.
Wildcat Thicket and the Backroads near Leonard, Texas
The Wildcat Thick is also referred to as the Corners (part of the North East Texas where Grayson, Fannin, Hunt, and Collin Counties met and that region of North East Texas that we live in. The area was said to be so thick with trees, vines, thorns, and other vegetation that even during the day it was dark. The area was a haven for outlaws and fugitives. It was even the area where several fights between Lee and Peacock Families. Just a few miles away is the Lee Family Cemetery.
Although we do not live in the Wildcat Thicket or what once was the Wildcat Thicket, we live less than 8 miles away. Its one of my favorite areas to explore. There’s a lot of area to explore and you never know what you will find when you are out there.
I took a lot of pictures that day, many of them were road landscape shots along with some old barns I found. I even took some landscape shots as I left the thicket and headed into Leonard. This batch of pictures includes pictures of the road and a couple of pictures of large track of land on a cattle ranch with a windmill in the background. When I have some time, I will finish up the other pictures and share them here.
About the Images
The images were shot on a gloomy afternoon using my Sony a6000 and my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS with a K&F Concept Circular Polarizer by hand or using my SunPak 6700m Monopod. I then edited the images with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
