Last year I was driving through the backroads of Natchitoches Parish, La when I came across this old mom-and-pop service station just outside of Ashland, Louisiana. After some research, this was originally Dupree’s Grocery – Esso Gas.
Dupree’s Grocery – Esso Gas
I haven’t found much information about the old store. But I did find someone that mentioned that their grandfather owned the store at one time. He even shared a few old pictures.
One of the pictures is from back when it was an ESSO Service Station. It once had two 1950s-era Esso Fuel Pumps (I’m going to see if I can get permission to share the image here). The pumping station was open to the elements. At some point, the station added a covered parking area over where the pumps once stood, an attached covered area off to the side of the building, and the building’s brick exterior wall was painted. Eventually, it became a Mobile Station. But that sign is faded and hasn’t been a store in a long time. It looks like the building is now someone’s personal shop.
About the Images
I used my Sony a6000 and my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS lens. The images were then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC, Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI, Aurora HDR (no longer available but still a great product), and Luminiar Neo to clean up the images.
