During one of my trips to Southern Mississippi, I passed through the small town of Olla, Louisiana. As I was passing through town I noticed a handful of old-row buildings. Several were recently empty while others were abandoned for years. Several other buildings were repurposed and are still in use today.
A Little About Olla Louisiana
Olla Louisiana is located in northwest La Salle Parish, Louisiana according to the 2010 census has a population of 1,385 residents. The Historic District hosts the Olla Homecoming Parade, Celebration, and Festival that happened during the LaSalle Highschool Home Coming each autumn. They also host an annual nighttime Christmas Parade, Miss Merry Christmas Pageant, and Community Christmas.
The Row Buildings
The old buildings look to be the last of the historic downtown buildings. The gutted building looks to be an old bank. The Cultural Center at part of the Jitney Jungle Store and it was in operation sometime around 1912-1920. I’m not sure of the actual dates I found a dated picture of the store. As to the rest of the stores, I do not know anything about them.
Throughout town, you will find a mixture of more modern buildings and homes. For a small town, it has a lot going for it. The town deserves another visit.
About the Images
I used my Sony a6000 and my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS lens. The images were then edited with Adobe Lightroom CC, Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI, Aurora HDR (no longer available but still a great product), and Luminiar Neo (partner discount codes: JJOHNSTPHOTOG10 – 10% off or JJOHNSTPHOTOG – $10 off) to clean up the images.
