Over a year ago, I stumbled across an abandoned building at East College St. and North Montgomery, St. Right across the street from the Saint John CME Church. At the time I wasn’t sure this building was used for. It could have been an old school, government housing building, or even an old Church.

Abandoned Church in Sherman, Texas

After some research and looking through old Grayson County tax records I found that this was an old church or the land looks to be deeded back in 1926. The records says this was the Harmony Missionary Baptist until 2004. From there it changed hands several times.

Then sometime during the summer of 2015 the building was demolished. The building was still in pretty good shape and well preserved for being so easy to access. Why was it demolished?

The history on this old building is a bit confusing. If you know anything about this old building, have pictures of it when it was active, or know who to contact, please let me know. At some point, I plan on document this building and its history.

About the the Images

The images were shot several months apart and during the late afternoon on sunny days. Both were shot by hand with my Sony Nex-3N and a Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 lens. I then edited the images in Adobe Lightroom. Next, I post processed with Topaz Clarity to add texture, brighten, and bring out the details in the images. Then I removed the dust spots. Finally, I used Topaz DeNoise to remove the noise from the image.
