I finally finished up editing images from the 2019 Pistons and Paint Car Show. These images were a little more difficult to clean up since the pictures were done in the late afternoon and the shadows were in all the wrong places.

Pistons and Paint Car Show

2019 Pistons and Paint Car Show

The Pistons and Paint Car Show’s first car show was started in 2001 in Garland, Texas at a chrome shop. The show was hosted and is still hosted by the Chupacabra’s Car Club. The car show had 38 cars. Today over a 100 (I don’t have the total numbers) cars showed up.

From at least since 2014 (once again, not sure when the show moved) the car show has been hosted at the North Texas Fair Grounds in Denton, Texas. The show is a paid event for both car owner registration and spectators. As of this year the cost for spectators is “$10 per person, children age 10 and under are free. NOTE: Each registered car gets (2) wristbands. All other passengers must pay $10 admission.” – Pistons and Car Show. And the gates open at 8:00 am and closes at 6:00 PM.

The only cars allowed are American Hot Rods & Customs that were built from 1972 and older. You will find hot rods, rat rods, custom bikes, and other vehicles at this show.

In addition to the cars, there’s live music throughout the day (usually Rockabilly), local vendors, and local hot rod shop builders may even show up.

2019 Pistons and Paint Car Show

The 2019 Pistons and Paint Car Show was the first time I’ve had the chance to attend the show. Normally I have to work or have other stuff that I have to take care of. Show is normally held in November and talking with others at the show, its normally its cold out. This year the temperatures were in the short sleeve and shorts range.

Because I had an event in downtown Dallas that morning, I did not arrive in Denton until 4 pm. I arrived so late that many of the cars had left or were leaving. Only the die hard car owners stayed to the end. Still there were at least a 100 cars still at the show.

2019 Pistons and Paint Car Show - Brian Bass of Bass Kustoms

I recognized many of the cars I’ve seen at other car shows and spoke with several of the owners I’ve met over the years.  I met Brian Bass of  Bass Kustoms. He brought a couple of his cars and was one of the judges for the show. I was even able to attend the award ceremony.

The 2019 Pistons and Paint Car Show was great and plan to attend to attend future events. I have 100 pictures from the show and plan on sharing them over them over the next few weeks. The last batch will have the winning cars.

About the images

The images were shot during bright sunlight but late in the afternoon. But due the sun angle I had to do a lot of editing. I used my Sony a6000 and my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS with a UV Filter by hand or using my SunPak 6700m Monopod. I then edited the images with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
