A few years back I got into light painting and product photography. Both types of photography need a lot of light directed at the right spots. I found having a single flash or a couple slaved flashed were good enough for my needs. I prefer static lights (lighting you might find for video work) it’s easier to see what your lighting up and what the end results should be. I found the best way to light a dark room, products, and light painting a large object is with large and small LED light panels. About 8 months ago I got my hands on the LP Professional Video Light – 112 Continues Portable Photography Light Kit. At first I wasn’t all that impressed with the light. It’s on the smaller size and does heat up quicker than my other panels. But now I find it’s a great option for handheld work, using on cellphone camera cage, tripod for additional lighting. Check out my review below.

The Review

LP Professional Video Light

I have several other on Camera LED Lights and use them for both on and off camera setup with the cold the show adapter and mounting them to tripods. I use several of these lights to add static lighting for product photography, macro photography, light painting, and for photographing old buildings that do not have power.

LP Professional Video Light

I picked this little one up as a backup, for extra fill light, and hand held option. It does a great job, but gets hot fast. Almost too hot to hold. But not too hot to mount to a cold shoe and tripod setup. Keep in mind these types of light products get hot, this one just doesn’t stay as cool as other larger units. But I think this may be a size issue.

The light is bright but I can control the brightness through the controls or use the supplied diffuser. When I turned the light on for the first time I noticed that it came about 30% full and ran out in about 30 minutes. To recharge it took an 1 hour and 44 minutes to complete. At 100% charge it gets 54 minutes of usage. If you need longer, the light does support pass through charging. So plug in your charger and let it run.  What I really like about this light is that in addition to the battery graphic showing how fast its charging,  it gives you how many minutes are left of usage or how long until charged. The only downside is this unit uses micro-USB to charge while most of my other panels use USB-C to charge.

LP Professional Video Light

As to product photography it did a good job at light the subject. But it will take several lights at different positions to remove shadows. I haven’t tried any portrait or lighting up a dark room yet. Once I have had to use the light, I will update the review.

The LP Professional Video Light is a good light and if you need a space saver option, then this might be the one for you. As always, I will update this review if needed.
