Part of our February 2023 road trip was to visit family. During our stay, we decided to take a day trip down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and do a little exploring. Our first stop was an old lighthouse out on a pier. The area is in rough shape, with trash everywhere, and people camping out or fishing. The area had the looks of an old marina but there weren’t any slips left, just a sheltered area large enough to park private sailing vessels and other boats. After some research, I found this lighthouse is the old Broadwater Beach Marina Lighthouse.

Broadwater Beach Marina Lighthouse – Biloxi, Mississippi

The Broadwater Beach Marina Lighthouse was built in 1965 for Broadwater Beach Resort and marks the entrance of the marina. The lighthouse is 66 feet tall and has an open-lantern design.

In 1969 Hurricane Camille devastated the Mississippi Gulf Coast but the lighthouse survived the hurricane with only minor damages while the resort received major damage but rebounded.

When Hurricane Katrina struck, it struck the final blow on the resort and Marina. The marina was destroyed and the resort was a complete loss. But once again, the lighthouse survived.

The lighthouse seems to be in ok shape. It’s covered in graffiti and the pier railing is rusty and falling apart. The pier and lighthouse base looks to be stable.

I read an article from 2020 that a large investment development group plans to redevelop the property that includes a massive modern resort building, casino, entertainment venue, marina, and golf course. From the renderings, the lighthouse is still there.
