On my last trip to Mississippi to visit family I had the chance to photograph a couple of old bridges in the area. Both abandoned and bypassed by new bridges that can handle today’s vehicle traffic. Today I wanted to introduce you to the old Myers Bridge in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi.
The Old Myers Bridge in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi
The old the Myers Bridge sits abandoned after being bypassed by a modern bridge in 1995. The old bridge is a two-span half-hip Pratt pony truss that is 134.8 ft long 11.5 ft. The bridge’s design called for a steel frame with a wooden deck.
The Bridge is in better shape than some bridges that have been abandoned for 25 years. But its decking is rotten and much of the steel is rusted out. The bridge still has a long life but if the scrappers find it or if the creek floods over the bridge, it will fail sooner than later.
About the Images
The images were shot during bright sunlight but late in the afternoon. Due to the sun angle I had to do a lot of editing. I used my Sony a6000 and my Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS with a Gobe UV Filter by hand. I then edited the images with Adobe Lightroom CC and Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI and DXO NIK Collection to clean up the image, remove noise, and recover the lost details.
