The Old Keachi Store in Keachi, Lousiana is an interesting building and you don’t see these types of buildings in small towns that look this anymore. From my research most small town general stores were more a thing of function than a thing of beauty. But like almost every other old building in town, the store stands out.
The Old Keachi Store in Keachi, Louisiana
The Keachi Store was built in 1850 and is a frame, temple-style Greek Revival commercial building located at the main crossroads in town. The store had some late nineteenth century alterations and some cosmetic deterioration. But the store still has has that Greek Revival look.
The building is of a traditional mid-nineteenth century commercial building design. The sales area is in the front and living quarters are at the back of the building. But its unknown if anyone lived in the living quarters. From the outside, the building looks to be one story, but according to the historic records, its actually a two story building.
The interior as of 1988 had a late nineteenth century remodeling. During the remodel time period a mezzanine balcony with octagonal columns and a simple Italianate balustrade was added on all four sides of the sales area. Many of the doors and windows were repaired or reworked and a small addition off to the side was added. The remodeling was done with repurposed 1850s materials. Sometime in the twentieth century portions of the winding staircases removed. The lower portions of the front columns were boxed in due to rot.

The Old Keachi Store – My Visits
During my visits I was limited to shoot from the side walk and front porch (to read historic signs). When I the build the first time a few years back I found the building in ok shape but it needs a new roof and paint. The addition in the worse shape and looks to be seperating from the main structure.
My second visit I found the owner on the roof putting up plastic trap to cover a leak. I hung around the area for about 30 minutes in hopes of talking with him but he was working hard and trying to beat the storms that were on the way.
About a year ago I passed through noticed that nothing changed on the building.
