Now that I’ve collected a handful of mobile devices my overnight bag and gear bag have become difficult to limit the junk I have to carry. The easiest way to do that is to carry a single USB-C wall charger (preferably a high mAh and multiple ports), cable and a portable charger with multiple ports (once again high mAh), and 2 or 3 cables for my devices. If it’s a road trip I cut back on the cables and leave one in the car and charge devices while on the road. For my last trip, I did just a wall charger from my Chromebook, a Chromebook USB-C cable, a watch charger cable, and a USB-C for my phone. I was able to keep everything charged up with the UGREEN 145W Power Bank 25000mAh Portable Charger. Because my charger was so slow I used the UGreen to keep my phone charging during our drives. The only mistake I made was that my wife didn’t bring her charger with her, just her cables. So we had to share the single USB-A port for her iPhone/iWatch and my charger for my Samsung watch.

Currently, I’m using this charger to keep my Chromebook, USB-C PD charging laptops, and other mobile devices while on the go. Normally it sits in my day bag along with the device-specific cables. Most of my devices can last all day if I remember to charge them up the night before. But just in case I forget, I have a fast charger to keep the devices charged when needed.

Several of the mechanic shops and dealership service centers do not have reservations or drop-off options and find it useful to have portable chargers handy when waiting on my car. You never know how long you will be there and you could easily burn up your batteries before your wait is over. When this charger became available for review I just had to get my hands on it. From the description, it fits my needs perfectly.

First Impressions

UGREEN 145W Power Bank 25000mAh Portable Charger

Before I even got it out of the Amazon shipping bag I could tell it was a beast. The charger is heavy and made to last. The ports are labeled, and the LED screen is bright and easy to read. I found it to be half-charged. I pulled out my PD 100+ watt wall charger I use to power my Chromebook. It charged in a few hours and was ready to use.  I found that when you plug in a device to charge it automatically starts (sometimes and other times you have to press the button to start it). Most devices will turn off charging when it’s full. At that point, the battery will shut off until you turn it back on.

You get three ports:

  • USB-C (100 watts)
  • USB-A (18 watts)
  • USB-C (45 watts)

The UGREEN Power Bank several options for charging your devices

If you use both USB-C at the same time you will get their rated watts. If you use one USB-C1 and the USB-A at the same time you will 100 at C1 and 18w at A. If you use A and C2 you will get 15w. When all 3 ports are used you will get C1 100w, A 15w, and C2 15w.

The Review

I haven’t had much time to test the charger out. I’m not traveling as much as I used to and I haven’t had to work at a café or a public location over the last month. I’ve been mostly using my home computer. I have plugged in my Chromebook to the charger. It runs fine and it does keep it charged. It charges my Chromebook as fast as my wall charger does.

I recently went on vacation with my wife and brought this charger thinking it would be enough to keep my stuff and her stuff charged. It kept our stuff charged but because my cellphone is older and running at about 80% efficiency the battery runs out in a few hours if I’m out hiking or using maps. So I have to keep my phone on a portable charger when in the car. During the trip, I had to charge both my Samsung Active 2 Watch and Samsung Galaxy Note Daily at the same time. I found using the USB-C PD port for the phone and the USB-A port for the watch I was easily able to charge my devices at the fastest possible speed the devices were designed to do. My wife was able to charge her iPhone 12 and Apple Watch SE (one at a time because of the cable she had on hand) but they charged quickly.

Then I used my Chromebook USB-C PD charger and cable to charge the portable charger

It doesn’t come with a wall charger. You will need to provide a PD charger (the faster the better) to charge it. If you use a phone charger or slow charger it will take all night or more to completely charge.  With a fast Power Delivery Charger, it took a few hours.

UGREEN Status Display

What I like
  • Powerful
  • Fast
  • Built to last
  • Has both USB C Ports and A USB-A
  • Can charge 3 devices at once and still have at least one 100w charge
  • LED Status with a percentage and not status lights
  • Power button
  • At least it has a nice protective storage bag
What I Don’t
  • It’s heavy
  • Wish it had its wall charger
  • The hard case instead of a bag
