Recently, my wife and I have started traveling more and traveling light since we are only taking carry-on luggage on our flights. With that being said, I’ve had to limit my camera gear and cut out my computer from these short trips. I’ve started carrying mostly my phone, GoPro kit, monopod, iPad 10th gen, and possibly my camera and one lens. I realized during our Michigan Trip last summer that my laptop may run out of space during the editing process. For our most recent trip (Savanah, Georgia), I picked up a SanDisk 2TB Portable SSD – USB-C.

Real Life Review
The SanDisk 2TB Portable SSD – USB-C is tiny. It isn’t much bigger than a credit card and maybe a 3 or 4 credit cards thick, making this not only a small footprint SSD drive, but it’s light weight and perfect for your travel gear, backpacking gear, or just a quick an easy way to back up your mobile devices and computers.
I also love the looks; it looks great on my desk. Plus, it looks to be made well. The orange key ring strap is a nice accent color.
The only thing I didn’t like was that it came with a USB-C to USB-A cable. The SSD Drive is USB-C, so you have to have to provide your high-speed data USB-C Cable if you want to transfer files from your Android and USB-C Apple Devices.
Usage
I first tested the SSD drive with my Google Pixel 7 Pro. SanDisk Memory Zone found the drive right away (Memory Zone App says it isn’t compatible). I also went into the file system and found the drive and way able to transfer files with ease.
When I connected my iPad SanDisk app did not find the drive. But I was able to find the drive in the file system app.
I mainly got the SanDisk 2TB Portable SSD – USB-C as a way to pull photos off my cellphone, GoPro, iPad, and camera (when I run out of SD cards for the GoPro and Camera) when I do not have internet access.
For my most recent trip, I was too tired, and we didn’t do much photography. I was mostly trying to relax and spend time at the nearby beaches and a couple of historical spots I wanted to check out.
For testing purposes, I went ahead and moved nearly 40 gigs of files from the iPad to the drive. Moving files was fast. It was only slow getting the iPad to process the large request.
But it moved files faster than all my USB-A hard drives. It did get warm to the touch. But nothing too serious.
Final Thoughts
I love the SanDisk 2TB Portable SSD – USB-C. It’s perfect for my needs. I plan to use it to back up my photos and videos on my devices and only keep the working files on the iPad. Once I get home, I will move the non-essential files over to my photo/video storage. I planning to get another one to give to my wife to back up her iPhone.
If you’re looking for a small, portable way to back up your photos, videos, and files while on the go, this could be a great option.
