Back in July I purchased a Sony SELP18105G E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS for our family trip to Canada. To protect that lens I decided to pick up a UV Lens Filter. There wasn’t time to get my go to Hoya UV Lens Filter ordered from Amazon. So while I purchases my new lens from Best Buy I picked up a Platinum – 72 UV Lens Filter.

Platinum PT-MCUVF72 UV lens filter

Over the years I have tried different UV Lens Filters everything from premium brands to simple generic budget friendly lens filters. For me, I normally use them to protect the lens and keep my fingers from touching the lens. The secondary benefits that a UV filter are least important because if most issues when not using a UV lens filter appear can be fixed in post.

I  found that with cheaper lens filters they get dirty faster and get more difficult to clean the longer they are in use. Eventually you can’t clean them. Even with the good ones, if the area I’m shooting is dusty, wet or dirty I may only get a few uses out them before they need to be replaced.

Normally I use brands such as Hoya or Tiffen but as I mentioned earlier I didn’t have time to order my regular filters from Amazon so I decided to give the Platinum – 72 UV Lens Filter a try. So far its been a great filter.

On first inspection I found no defects in the glass or the coatings. I was also pleased to see that the filter with thin and light weight. I could easily do some filter stacking if I ever needed to and it should work fine.

Platinum PT-MCUVF72 UV lens filter - Sunny Day Landscape Shot

When out the field I found the Review: Platinum – 72mm UV Lens Filter did a good job at keeping my shots looking good and protected my lens. During our trip to Canada in July we spent a lot of time outdoors. Most days were sunny and the trails for the most part dry and dusty. With the Lens filter I only had to do a quick wipe down with a Lens Pen or use a my faithful Giottos AA1903 Rocket Air Blaster to knock away the dust. If I got a smudge on it and the lens pen didn’t work I used a microfiber cloth and a spray lens cleaner to remove the smudges.
