Review: Neewer Pro Universal Soft Mini Flash Bounce Diffuser

Using a camera flash can be difficult if you aren’t familiar with how they work. Once you become familiar with how they work they are a great tool to help light up your subject. I don’t recommend using your camera’s built in flash. Most cameras have limited flash controls and do put enough light to really help you. What light it does put out is harsh. To fix this issue you can use a battery powered flash, off camera flash systems, or lighting systems. Using battery power flashes have a ton settings and takes time to get the right amount of light to light your subject. Once again the raw light created by a flash can be harsh and wash out your subject. One way to fix that is to use a camera diffuser (also called a softbox) to bounce the light around and lessen the harshness of the light. If you are new to using camera flashes or just need a cheap flash diffuser, you need to take a look at the Neewer Pro Universal Soft Mini Flash Bounce Diffuser. Its cheap enough to throw away when it gets dirty but good enough to use for a photo shoot.

Please Note: I am still learning flash photography and I’m my terminology is probably wrong. But for a new photographer or someone getting into photography this diffuser is a great option.

Neewer Pro Universal Soft Mini Flash Bounce Diffuser – The Review

The Neewer Pro Universal Soft Mini Flash Bounce Diffuser is made well. Its a mixture of fabric, reflective material and white diffuser exterior surface. It uses elastic cuff that slides around the bulb end of the flash. You slide it over the flash and adjust it for your needs.

I use the Neewer Pro Universal Soft Mini Flash Bounce Diffuser whenever I use my flash and I won’t leave home with out it. I find it to be useful both indoor and outdoors. In doors I use to bounce light around my subject and remove shadows. Now that I use the diffuser, I rarely use my studio lighting when photographing products. When exploring and documenting old buildings I use the flash to light up the room and bring out details I may have missed when I was shooting wide without a flash.

Outdoors during the day, the flash and the diffuser comes in handy when bouncing light off my subject and the surrounding area to remove shadows. It also great blocking flares when shooting interior car shots.

I originally picked up this diffuser for exploring abandoned building and dark interiors. I came up with this idea when I was photographing an abandoned hotel. The owner said the building no longer had power but was still safe enough to walk around with flashlights and light coming in from the windows. The place was dusty and grimy. After the shoot was over I noticed my expensive diffuser was dirty and couldn’t be cleaned. After that I decided to try the Neewer Pro Universal Soft Mini Flash Bounce Diffuser because of its price. Its not as nice as a Gary Fong Diffuser or my Altura Diffuser but it works great for general uses and I highly recommend it.
