A little over a month ago, spring hit North Texas. Honestly, it really started back in late February when the neighboring farm’s spring rye grass/cover crop started growing and taking over our property. We normally get a great display of wildflowers and native prairie grasses that pop up, which can’t be cut back because of all the rain. This year was no different. I took my trusty 15-year-old Zero Turn out for a spin in March to start the cutting and noticed for the first time my ears were ringing afterwards. I normally wear over the ear headphones, or my Google Pixel Buds and they are normally enough for me. I’m not saying they provide hearing protection, but they helped some. I decided it was time to get a good set of hearing protection, but I hate those big, bulky ones because I can wear my shade hats and face shields. After some research, I came across multiple positive reviews for the DeWalt Jobsite Pro X2 ANC True Wireless Earbuds and had to give them a try.

The Review

DeWalt Jobsite Pro X2 ANC True Wireless Earbuds

On first impressions, they come packed like any other retail item from DeWalt. Nothing special, just functional. Once opened, I found that it comes with plenty of ear pads and hooks to fit most ear sizes. The case is big, bulky, and heavy. It’s not needed. It’s awkward in my pocket. But for a mechanic, contractor, or weekend warrior DIYer keeping the case in a toolbox, glove box, or on the tool bench, then having the extra beefiness is perfect.

The status lights are on the same end as the plastic loop and will light up once you put the buds back in and when they’re charging.

To access the buds, pull on the plastic loop, and the buds will slide out. The buds are kept in place with magnets. Pop the buds out and they turn on put them back in they start charging again and turn off. Pulling them out of your ears will put them in standby mode. They will still receive calls and notifications in this state.

Close the case to keep the buds in place. The case is IP54 rated as long as the case is closed. Earbuds have the same rating.

Charge Times

I only use the earbuds when I’m on the tractor, string trimmer, and push mower. I’ll also use them around loud power tools. But I won’t be using them like an all-day user might. I use them for an hour or so at a time, 2 or 3 times a week. I’ve been slowly chipping away at the charge on the earbuds, and the case is still showing mostly a full charge. So, I can see these easily lasting 40 hours before needing a charge.

Charge times are quick. On my PD USB-C charger, it charges as fast as any other earbuds on the market.

Usage

Hearing protection Earbuds

In order for these to block outside noise for hearing protection, you need to find the correct earpad. They not only need to be comfortable, but they also need to fit snugly in your ears. I find that I put them in and twist the earbuds down so the mic points towards the jawline. This usually creates a good seal.

I still get a lot of outside noise, but it’s better than standard earbuds with or without ANC. If you need more protection, you might try and get a cheap set of over-the-ear protectors and use the earbuds with them. They should fit.

As to the controls. They are a bit annoying. I’m still trying to figure them all out. With all its features, it should have been controlled by an app.

The longest I’ve worn them is maybe two hours, and they seem to be comfortable enough. I can see myself wearing these all day if needed.

Sound Quality

Some reviewers on Amazon and Reddit complained about sound quality. I think they sound good. Plenty of highs, mids, and lows. I will tell you they do need a short break period. Maybe an hour or two. You also need to make sure you get the earbuds seated in your ears properly. This is where having the right ear pads and sealing your ear canals. Once this is completed, the sound is better than your cheap sub-$100 pair of earbuds.

Final Thoughts

The DeWalt Jobsite Pro X2 ANC True Wireless Earbuds are a great option for anyone needing hearing protection and still wanting their music playing in their ears. They are built to last, and they sound good doing it. They have plenty of power to last an 8-to-10-hour workday (you can always charge during breaks/lunch and use your regular earbuds if you need them longer). They can be purchased on Amazon, DeWalt.com, and most big-box hardware stores. At the time of my purchase, the best price was on Amazon.

I’m goal for this was to do a review every week or every other week, but with my busy schedule and trying to work out more, it’s not leaving me with much time to work on my reviews. My new goal is to try and to complete 2 reviews a month with weekly updates to my weekly Random Image of the Week series with road trip adventures, and places I’ve visited thrown in the mix.
