Aukey 18W Power Delivery Wall Charger – The Review

Aukey 18W Power Delivery Wall Charger

Just a week ago Aukey sent me the Aukey 18W Power Delivery Wall Charger to test along with some of their cables. As with my other charger tests, I ran real life tests. I tested for build quality, how hot it gets when its charging, compare comporable chargers,  and how fast it charges using different cords.

First Impressions

Aukey 18W Power Delivery Wall Charger

The wall charger comes in a plain, small form fitting, brown cardboard box with the name of the product and picture of the  charger on it.  The charger is protected by a protective film covering the slick black plastic body. Once the charger was removed from the box I found the Aukey Key Logo Sticker and charger paperwork.

Once the plastic film was removed I found the charger to be made with shiny black plastic and the plug prongs are foldable. I then compared the Aukey 18W Power Delivery Wall Charger to the Anker Atom PD1 and found the Aukey charger was slightly smaller and ligher. Unlike the Anker Atom PD1, the Aukey Wall Charger plug prongs fold in! Overall it looks to be made well.

The Testing Process

For the testing process I used my Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Aukey USB-C to USB-C Cable, Aukey USB-C to USB-C Braided Cable, and and Anker USB-C-to USB-C Cable. I also used the Anker Atom PD1 Wall Charger to compare charge speeds.

During the testing process I found that the charger doesn’t heat up while charging. When using different high quality cables the charging times were similar. I found that the 20 to 30% battery life to 100% charged in about an hour and a half.

When comparing charge times between the more powerful Anker Wall Charger (30 watts) than the Aukey Wall Charger (18 Watts) the charger times were also similar. This means that the chargers used their charge technologies to send the right amount of power to the phone to charge safely and the fastest possible.

Final Thoughts

This is a great charger and I find that ist the perfect fit for charging my Power Delivery devices. I only have a handful of Power Delivery Products and non of them need to be charged at the same time. This charger is designed to charge both tablets and USB-C powered cell phones. This charger may even be able to charge some USB-C laptops. If you plan to charge your laptop make sure the wattage is enough. If not you will need to take at the Anker Atom PD 1 or one of Aukey’s larger more powerful Power Delivery Chargers.

The downside to having only one PD port is you still have to carry multiple chargers if you have standard USB charging devices. If you need to charge PD devices at the same time you won’t be able to. If you need more ports make sure to check Aukey multiport wall chargers.

The only thing I do not like about this charger is that its made from shiny black plastic. I prefer muted plastic. The shiny surfaces show smudges and scratches. I generally carry my charging gear in small bag or in a pocket in my bag. That is generally good enough to protect the surface of the charger.

This charger is slightly more expensive than a cheap charger you might find in the value section of a store (if you can even find a PD charger) but its built to last and should last longer than your cell phone will need to be upgraded. Because of its price and quality, I highly recommend the Aukey 18W Power Delivery Wall Charger.  If you are in the market for power delivery charger make sure to check out the Aukey Power Delivery Charger today.

NOTE: This review will be updated if over the next year these cables have an issue or fail completely. If you don’t see an update then the cable is still going strong
