I love flashlights and I have a addiction for a good and trusty flashlight. I keep several in the bedroom, one or two in the living room by the doors, and one in the office for working on computers and other projects. In addition to that I keep one or two large ones in the cars (can be use for more than lighting things up) and a few in the barn. I also use flashlights for light painting photography and exploring old buildings that usually do not have power. If you were to open up my gear bag you will find a small fixed beam flashlight, a small pen light, and an adjustable rechargeable light. Today, I decided it was time to start reviewing the flashlights I use. The first flashlight up for review is the Anker Rechargeable Bolder LC90 LED Flashlight.

Anker Rechargeable Bolder LC90 LED Flashlight – The Review
I’m a big fan of Anker flashlights. Over the last few years I’ve own 4 Anker Flashlights 3 were the same product and gave three lights away as Christmas gifts once I completed my tests and made sure they will work for those that I were giving them to. As to the Anker Rechargeable Bolder LC90 LED Flashlight, it was one that I gave to my father who needed a trusty rechargeable light.
First Impressions
The flashlight comes in the standard blue and white box and was secured in a way that the includes and flashlight won’t bounce around in the box. The flashlight itself is made well. Its light weight and fits in the pocket. The head is a little larger than the shaft and can bit awkward to carry around in your pocket. The lens is clear and the focus of the light looks good.
After taking a part the flash light, I found it comes apart in four pieces. That includes the outer shaft, the battery, one of the battery terminals, and the button end of the light. The battery end terminal and the switch are connected by a small wire/stretchy cord. If you leave the end terminal attached to the light you will find a micro-USB port for charging the device.
The USB cable is a little shorty cable and is made better than the average cheap general micro-USB cables.
Testing
As with most Anker products the light exceeded my expectations. The Anker Rechargeable Bolder LC90 LED Flashlight is bright and can light up my neighbors house at night and that house is over 500 feet away. It isn’t super bright but its enough that you can see someone in the shadows. From 50 to several 100 feet the light pattern is bright and you can see everything within the light pattern.
I also left the light on for hours and during the 6 hour test on medium. It was warm to the touch and the battery lasted 6 hours as Anker says it does. On high it was about 4 hours before the battery was exhausted. I didn’t test the lowest setting since I rarely use a light on its lowest setting.
Strobe and SOS work and are annoying. The settings are in line and you have to click past each setting to turn it off. But this is standard with most flashlights.
Charging
When completely exhausted the battery took about 6 hours to charge. Generally I set it to charge before going to bed and when I got up it was completely charged. It doesn’t have intelligent charging options. So there’s no need to charge it with anything other than a 1A charger. To charge, all you do is remove the button end and let it hang to the side. Inside you will find the hidden micro-USB port. During the charging process, the Anker Rechargeable Bolder LC90 LED Flashlight did not get hot.
Usage and Light Pattern
I used the light several times to light up the yard when wild animals or the neighbor dogs passed through the yard. I used several times when walking in the dark around the property and going into one of the unlit out buildings at night. I didn’t get a chance to try out painting, but I did try out the motions of light painting by lighting up an old car on the property using some of the techniques I would use during light painting. Once again it will be perfect for large paint jobs. The pattern is a near perfect circle without an annoying hole in the middle. Its a little large for smaller more precise light painting projects.
Final Thoughts
I love the Anker Rechargeable Bolder LC90 LED Flashlight it almost perfect for my needs. Its perfect for my father’s needs. I wished I had kept the light for myself. I plan on buying another light when I need to replace one of my older lights.
