When choosing the right wireless charger for your phone you need to decide if you want a wireless pad or cradle stand style charger. The pad is barely visible on the desk or on the shelf. The cradle has a larger foot print and needs to look good in your house or office. Otherwise it sticks out like a sore thumb. For me, I prefer stand. Stands are easier to get your phone connected to the charger and it can be used as a stand to keep your eye on the phone screen. If you are looking for an inexpensive stand charger that is reliable and fast, you need to take a look at the Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max Stand Wireless

Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger – The Review

Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max

I received the free Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger for participating and being one of the winners in Anker’s Community contest, We Love Testing. This new charger is the third Anker wireless charger in my mobile device charging toolbox. Today’s review is will be my standard unboxing, first impressions, and testing. After testing I will compare the other two Anker Wireless Chargers with the Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger.

First Impressions

Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max

The Charger comes in Anker’s standard White and Blue Box. The packaging is easy opening and only the twist ties and the plastic protective sleeve over the cradle is the only thing not recyclable.

The Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger does not come with a wall charger and not just any wall charger will charge your phone at the fastest speed possible. I will give some recommendations at the end of the review. All it comes with a premium 4 foot micro USB cable.

The Cradle is made well and looks nice. It gives off a modern look with matte black plastic outer shell with small blue status light. At the back side of the edge on the base you will find the power port. The bottom of the base has a non slick rubber bottom that sticks to the desk surface.

The phone sits perfectly in the cradle in portrait and horizontal view. Watching a movie while on the cradle works. Watching a movie on your phone isn’t ideal but if you want to use it as stand while on a flight it works great. If you are plugged in, your phone will charge while you watch movies.

Charging

Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max

During the testing process I used the provided micro-USB cable and a Anker PowerPort +1 18w Wall Charger to power the Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger. I believe this wall charger is one of the recommended chargers for the cradle. If you need several USB ports for charging devices open, the USB port to the cradle needs be a minimum of 18ws to charge your device at full wireless speed.

With the right wall charger the cradle can charge my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 from 20% to 100% with Fast Charge in two hours and sixteen minutes. This is consistent with my other fast charging wireless charging pads. I also have no difficulties charging with a my UAG Monarch Case or without a case. Either way it charges at the same speed. Results may vary with other cases.

When charging, I found no issues with the cradle heating up or my device to hot to touch. It does get warm. But a slight warmness is normal with wireless charging.

As to placement it doesn’t have to be perfect! Most of the other chargers I’ve tested over the last year, the placement had to be perfect. If it wasn’t lined up it wouldn’t charge. I’m looking over at the charger as I write this review and notice the charger isn’t seated perfect and its still charger and even after proper placement the charge speed is the same.

The status light is a small blue ring. In a dark room its a bright but manageable. If needed I could put a piece of tape over it.

Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger  VS The  Anker PowerWave II Pad Wireless Charger Pad VS Anker PowerWave 7.5W Fast Wireless Charging Pad

As I mentioned before, I own two other Anker Wireless Charger and I want to briefly share my thoughts between all three. At some point I will create an article that list all of Anker’s Wireless Chargers. But here’s the basic information about how these other two wireless chargers stack up against the Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger.

No products found.

When it comes to wireless charging I found that Anker products tend to charge about the same speed and in my opinion its more about the decision to go with a cradle or a pad and your budget. This theory works with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. If I can get my hands on a iPhone with wireless charging and other Android Wireless Charging Devices, I will test this theory.

How Fast Do They Charge

I found the Anker PowerWave 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger and the Anker PowerWave II Pad Wireless Charger Pad at the same speeds. My latest reading says for 91% to 100% is 19 minutes for both chargers. What’s interesting is I plugged in the Anker 7.5W Fast Wireless Fast Charger and it estimated charging times are the same! I forgot to mention that at 85% charging slows down to protect the phone. So it is possible that the two faster chargers may have slowed down to protect the phone.

So I did some more testing. For that round of testing I started the process at 49% and all three chargers show about the same estimated times. The 7.5W charger was about a minute slower. This requires more testing.

Please Note: Wireless charging is all about convenience. You know, place it on the charger, pick it up look at it, do something, and then put it back down on the charger. Wireless charging will be slower than plugging in your phone to a wall charger or portable battery pack.

From some of the research I found on wireless charging is that its inefficient. Example would be the charger needs an 18 watt wall charger to charge a device at 10W. This bit of information was given to me on another site.

Charging results will vary between devices and how each user has their phone setup and background apps that are running. Everything from how bright the screen is, is active while charging or if the phone is turned off while change how fast the phone is charging.

Usability

All three devices are easy to use but the two pads are picky about placement. I found the the Cradle to be the easiest to use for placement and it comes in handy for adding an additional screen on the desk or use the cradle unplugged on a plane for traveling (haven’t tested and won’t be testing anytime soon).

When using at the night the Anker PowerWave 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger and the Anker PowerWave II Pad Wireless Charger Pad are the best options for a bed side charger. Both of these have small lights that you can’t see at night or can easily be covered to block the light. Sadly the Anker PowerWave 7.5w Fast Wireless Charging Pad has a bright blue light that can be covered but it has a noisy fan that seems like it gets even nosier in the quiet of the bedroom. For those that need white noise when sleeping. The fan works great for that.

The Results

Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max

For me the winner is the Anker PowerWave 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger and its because its a cradle. It really isn’t fair to compare a cradle charger to a pad but its what I have and prefer. As mentioned before all three are great options and they all charge fast. If you want to save a little money, get an Anker 7.5 model. They will drop in price as more 10W models come out.

Final Thoughts

The Anker PowerWave Stand 10W Max Stand Wireless Charger is my new go to wireless charger. I have it set up on the TV stand in the living room and when I’m not using my phone it lives on that charger. I’m currently reorganizing my office area and the computer layout out. Once I have it setup, I’ll be moving that charger to my office desk.

Overall I like everything about this charger. It would have been nice to add a wall charger. Maybe in the future they will add a combo pack like Anker’s previous version, 7.5W. But that’s not a negative, many wireless chargers do not come with wall chargers.

I really do not see a difference in speed between the models I have so in this case it falls on looks and usability. Since I prefer cradle style chargers and this one has one of the best designs for a cradle charger I’ve seen in a while. Its my favorite and if you prefer a cradle style wireless charger then this one you should check out.
