The thing to keep in mind when traveling is to travel lite. Especially when flying. Seems like every year another airline adds weight restrictions to your luggage and carry on items. With this in mind, cutting weight in any area in your travel pack is important. One thing you can do is eliminate extra wall chargers and extra charging accessories. For some this isn’t possible, but for those that use both USB-C and USB-A charging you can eliminate carrying a second OEM Charger. If you have devices that requires USB-A and USB-C then you are in luck! Anker now makes several different wall chargers that will  take care of your charging needs. Today, I want to share my review of the Anker PowerPort 2 Wall Charger.

Anker PowerPort 2 – The Review

The  Anker PowerPort 2 is my current charger for travel. It provides me the option to charge my USB-C PD devices and still provide charging for my non USB-C devices. This charger made it possible for me to remove one of my chargers from my travel bag. I found it to be the perfect option for charging my Samsung Galaxy Note, iPad Pro, portable speakers, over-the-ear headphones, wireless earbuds, and my true wireless earbuds.

I’ve been using the Anker PowerPort 2 for several months and decided it was time share my results with everyone. Below, you will find my long term review.

First Impressions

Anker PowerPort 2

The Anker PowerPort 2 comes in the standard blue and white box that has a flip open front to reveal a preview of the wall charger. Once opened, I found everything to be packaged in a way to make easy for the owner to open up the package with in a few seconds but everything including the includes are secured. The packaging is perfect for either online sales or in a retail store.

The wall charger comes in either white or black. The material is a slick plastic that can scratch easily with USB-C and USB-A ports on the front. You will also find a bright blue LED status light that lights up when the charger is plugged in. To make it pack/store the plug is foldable. The Anker PowerPort 2 is light weight and built to last.

Charging Devices

Anker PowerPort 2

As I mentioned above, I charged everything from cell phones, tablets, to accessories. With every type of device that the charger charged my devices faster than the OEM charger or the cheap generic ones you might find at the service station or drug store. I also found that using a premium cable such as a cable from Anker or Aukey, charged faster than the supplied OEM cables that came with my devices. During the charging process I checked for hot temperatures and it never got hot to the touch just a little warm.

When charging USB-C PD, I was able to achieve fast charging. I charged 35% to 100% in about an 1 hour and 20 minutes. When plugged in and charging two devices my PD speed did not drop. I have not tried to charge two phones or my tablet and phone at the same time.

Final Thoughts

Anker PowerPort 2

This is one of my favorite chargers. Its perfect for my needs. At some point I will upgrade to the Anker PowerPort Atom PD 2 or a similar option once I have no need of USB-A charging in my travel gear. But for now this is the one I need. The only issue I have is that its heavy when its plugged in. Its top heavy and sometimes it can be bumped. Once bumped, the wall charger may slip out of the socket just enough that it stops charging. When this happens, I may not catch it until its time to take the device off the charger. Other than that this, its a great option for those needing to charge both USB-A and USB-C devices.
