Review: Anker 10-in-1 Outlet Extender

For years, I’ve used outlet extenders both generic and premium brands. I just retired two that were close to 15 years old and was having issues keeping my devices powered on. When I decided it was time to replace them. During my research, I came across a couple of options from Anker. I decided on the Anker 10-in-1 Outlet Extender mainly for its low-profile design and USB A and USB-C built-in. Knowing that for years Anker has made quality products I decided to give their extender a try. Below is my review and experience with the outlet extender.

Anker 10-in-1 Outlet Extender – The Review

As with all of Anker’s products, the outlet extender comes well-packaged. Not much packaging but then again there isn’t much there to get damaged. After removing the extender from the box, I found the device to be made of matte white plastic. It has a modern feel to it. It has one 3-prong outlet and a plastic stem that attaches to the back of the extender and mounts in the ground of the lower wall outlet. The device has 6 outlets, 2 USB A, and 2 USB-C on the top side. There’s not much to say. It works as it should and looks great when you aren’t using the USB ports.

Installation

Before you start messing with your outlet, make sure to turn off the power at the breaker for that room.  Installation is pretty straightforward. Install the plastic on the stem then remove the old screw from the wall outlet plate. If your outlet is loose like mine were. Tighten them down. Then take the longer supplied screwed, put it through the Outlet Extender, screw hole then insert in the wall plate, and then screw it back into the outlet. Once the power is back on it should work. Plug something in to test it out.

If the outlet isn’t tight then the outlet extender will be loose. Just make sure you don’t over-tight all the screws. It could damage the outlets or the device.

Usage

It works as it should. No issues. I have one installed in a bedroom and one installed in our home office. What I don’t like is the outlets are too close together. Other outlet extenders on the market give a lot more space between outlets. These are so close together that some bulky plugs, smart timers, and USB-C power outlets overlap the other ports cutting your outlets in half.

The USB ports are on the bottom making it less obvious there are cables plugged in. It can be difficult to plug something on those ports quickly. I’m using those ports with cables I always leave plugged in.

Final Thoughts

The Anker Outlet Extender and USB Wall Charger comes in a single pack or a two-pack over at Amazon. We ended up getting the two-pack with plans of getting a few more. After the installation, I decided to try another option from Anker. I will be reviewing that unit in the future. Overall, I like this wall unit. I mostly like that it’s low profile and keeps our furniture closer to the wall.
